Histoire
Grace Stanton’s life as a rising media star and beloved lifestyle blogger takes a surprising turn when she catches her husband cheating and torpedoes his pricey sports car straight into the family swimming pool. Grace suddenly finds herself locked out of her palatial home, checking account, and even the blog she has worked so hard to develop in her signature style. Moving in with her widowed mother, who owns and lives above a rundown beach bar called The Sandbox, is less than ideal. So is attending court-mandated weekly "divorce recovery" therapy sessions with three other women and one man for whom betrayal seems to be the only commonality. When their “divorce coach” starts to act suspiciously, they decide to start having their own Wednesday "Ladies' Night" sessions at The Sandbox, and the unanticipated bonds that develop lead the members of the group to try and find closure in ways they never imagined. Can Grace figure out a new way home and discover how strong she needs to be to get there?

After a political scandal, fledgling lobbyist Dempsey Jo Killebrew is left almost broke, unemployed, and homeless. She reluctantly accepts to refurbish Birdsong, the old family place in Guthrie, Georgia. But, oh, is Dempsey in for a surprise. "Bird Droppings" would more aptly describe the moldering Pepto Bismol - pink dump. There's also a murderously grumpy old lady who has claimed squatter's rights and isn't moving out. Ever.

Ava thinks love should be found in the real world, not on apps that filter men by height, job, or astrological sign. She believes in feelings, not algorithms. So after a recent breakup and dating app debacle, she decides to put love on hold and escapes to a remote writers' retreat in coastal Italy. At the retreat, she's not allowed to use her real name or reveal any personal information. First Audiobook I've not finished . . .
- Écrit par Carrie le 2021-01-13
Description
"Kathleen McInerney narrates a charming story that transports listeners to the sunny beaches of Florida...McInerney slips a slight Southern accent into her narration that works well." (AudioFile magazine)
New York Times best-selling author and Queen of the Beach Reads Mary Kay Andrews delivers her next blockbuster, Hello Summer.
It’s a new season...
Conley Hawkins left her family’s small town newspaper, The Silver Bay Beacon, in the rearview mirror years ago. Now a star reporter for a big-city paper, Conley is exactly where she wants to be and is about to take a fancy new position in Washington, DC. Or so she thinks.
For small town scandals...
When the new job goes up in smoke, Conley finds herself right back where she started, working for her sister, who is trying to keep The Silver Bay Beacon afloat - and she doesn’t exactly have warm feelings for Conley. Soon, she is given the unenviable task of overseeing the local gossip column, "Hello, Summer".
And big-time secrets.
Then, Conley witnesses an accident that ends in the death of a local congressman - a beloved war hero with a shady past. The more she digs into the story, the more dangerous it gets. As an old heartbreaker causes trouble and a new flame ignites, it soon looks like their sleepy beach town is the most scandalous hotspot of the summer.

Pushing HER political beliefs down our throats!
I wish I could get away and enjoy a book without an authors political beliefs being forced on me! We get enough of that all around us these days. I get it you hate republicans and they you believe they are all rich evil old men. This is not the first book she has bashed republicans either. Keep politics out of the next one PLEASE.

Great book!
I was looking for a book that was not to heavy. With all that has been going on in the world I wanted a good story with a little bit of everything, but on the lighter side. This book fit what I was looking for perfectly!

juvenile and shallow
This was very boring and the characters very shallow. They were so one dimensional I just didn't care what happened. Stopped with three hours left because I couldn't take it anymore. The stereotypes, from the housekeeper to the sheriff to the "g-mama" to the old flame turned divorcee to the evil 2nd wife, etc., were terrible - predictable - BORING!
And enough of the slut shaming! This is 2020. The double standard for men and women having sex outside of marriage, and the overvaluing of female virginity, are attitudes that belong in the past.
The narrator did not help, since she sounds like a tween and reads with the drama of a high school TV sitcom.

Brilliant
This book is a little gem. From the moment you begin to listen it captivates you with realistic and generally likeable characters and a fast moving pace. The story moves along well and does not become unnecessarily dragged out or long despite its 16 hour length. Kathleen McInerney is perfect as the narrator. I definitely recommend this book.

As always, a delightful read (or listen!)! Twists and turns I never expected. She kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. I’m sad it’s already over and counting down to next year’s release. Maybe while in quarantine, we’ll get another release for this year...fingers crossed!

Forced myself to finish
I wanted to stop listening to this book many times but I forced myself to finish. The main story line is so drug out that I just wanted it to be over. Then in chapter 57, something so stupid happens that I wanted to scream. This second sub-plot wasnt needed at all and just prolonged my misery. I have enjoyed other books by this author but not this one.

Not Interesting!
This book was just not interesting. An elderly Congressman whose character is not fleshed out is integral to the story, but readers may find it hard to care about him or his family. The narrator sounds like a child, not a strong, capable woman. Andrews has more interesting books: skip this one.

Great Story!
My mother and I really enjoyed this book. The colloquialisms rang true of southern upbringing and social traditions. While our heroine starts out on rocky ground she musters on doggedly following story leads and asking hard questions. I can’t wait to read more by Mary Kay Andrews
