À propos de cet audio

Perceptive, funny, and nostalgic, E. B. White's stroll around Manhattan remains the quintessential love letter to the city, written by one of America's foremost literary figures. The New York Times named Here Is New York one of the 10 best books ever written about the metropolis, and The New Yorker called it "the wittiest essay, and one of the most perceptive, ever done on the city".

Included with this essay are two short poems by E. B. White: "Commuter" and "Critic", both published in The New Yorker in 1925.

I confess I picked this up due to it being by the author of Charlotte's web.

It is a long essay about revisiting New York in the 1950s, having lived there in the 1920s. Lots of nostalgia for times past. Beautifully written.

Warning: Some of the terms he uses (especially when decribing minorities) to these more modern ears sounds jarring/unacceptable,

There is an stunning foreshadowing to 9/11 in the last 5 minutes.

The perfect narration truly lifts this essay.

A nostalgic essay from the 1950s
