Description

Dan's survived a lot. Her mother died. Her two sisters loathed her. One aunt hated her. The other was strangely distant, but the worst storm was being dumped by her childhood best friend/high school boyfriend/first love for her younger sister. There went the one person who was hers and with that, the main reason she stuck around. So, she left for 10 years. But now she's back, and nothing's the same.

With help from Jonah Bannon, a reformed - kind of - bad boy she remembers from high school, Dani uncovers family secrets that have spanned generations. And along with those, she's about to face the biggest storm of her life. Only this time, she may not survive.

Speechless

This is the second time I've read this book and it hasn't lost its appeal. Still one of my favorite books.

Tijan really captures the meaning of love and loss in the book.

Again one of my favorite books.

I don't get it.

Positive first, I think the narrator of the book was really good she gave each character their own voice.

Story Review: Even though Tijan stories are high drama and teenybopperish I usually enjoy them. However, this one baffled and irked all the way through. The book lacks the main ingredient that Tijan is known for, LOYALTY. All the characters were contradictions. The backstory or mysteries were pretty confusing.
Dani comes home after leaving town broken hearted 10 years early. Why? because she survived a tragic experience and felt that it was time to stop running from her past. IMO seeing who and what came home to didn't make it seem like that was the place for her to heal. Nothing in the story makes me understand why any of the people she left behind has the right to be angry with her. The only person that she should have maybe cared about is her Aunt Mae but even she was questionable since she tries to justify Dani's sister's betrayal (while she strongly held on to her own grudges) Plus, she kind of let Dani down not stepping up sooner. We only got to know the surface of each of the characters which made it hard really understand the characters motives. The backstory about the family got really confusing to me and was too messy to figure out. I think I got the gist of what the writer was trying to say, that Dani comes from a long line of betrayers and that history keeps repeating itself when it comes to the women in this family. The Jonah and Dani romance was cute and comfortable which is the only thing this book has going for it. I was really hoping that a few people got put in their place but I was sorely let down. In the end, I think that Tijan tries to put too much in the book and was unable to make fully developed storylines.

I DIDN'T WANT THIS ONE

I DIDN'T WANT THIS ONE TO END!! I LOVED IT! I JUST WISH INSTEAD OF DOING A QUICK CHAPTER TO END IT, IT WOULD'VE LASTED A BIT LONGER!

Ehh

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I don't really know, it's really hard to listen to for a couple of reasons.I love Tijan I was following her when she was on wattpad, but this plot was really slow, the story was hard to follow, but in her defense starting a story after something big happens and then recapping is really hard to do so A for effort. Dany seems like an amateur character, like this was TIjan first book, but Fallen Crest High was better then this and that was her first book.

What didn’t you like about Sarah Mollo-Christensen’s performance?

I didn't like how hard her S's were, especially while having headphones on it's really cringy and definitely dragged the story down. It actually makes me want to listen to another story, and get a refund.

What would have made this romance irresistible?

I didn't even know it was a romance, it really just felt like a drama. I'm actually really surprised, most books have romance but it doesn't mean it's a romance genre, I really feel it was a drama.

Any additional comments?

Like I said I love Tijan but I know she could do better then this book. And audible needs to step up their narration game

Broken Generations

This is my favorite Tijan book. The story has a heroine that may have run in the past but she is back, and she wants answers. She is not weak and dependent on others. Having been through a lot she fights her battles and speaks her mind. She is not looking for a man to solve all her problems. Dani may get more than she bargains for as she faces her demons and searches for answers. The narrator does an amazing job bringing the characters to life.

A more mild story

I love to go back to this story when I want some calm in my life. It has action, drama, and insecurities that you will not find anywhere else. Natural disasters and finding yourself along the way. I just think the nice and slow pace is great for soothing the mind.

This is one of Tijan's miss for me DNF.

I love Tijan's books, but this. This was a disaster. It didn't even read like her book. I don't understand how an entire family is in love with ONE sleaze bucket of a guy! ONE! As if the entire world is just one guy. It was so lame. The entire storyline.. It was just ridiculous. Everyone is lying, everyone has secrets. It got to the point where there is not one likable character in this book and that's a rarity for Tijan's books. There's always one character that I would love, but in this story, everyone is just horrible. Aunt Mae was the only slight exception until she opened her mouth and tried to justify the lame way her sister betrayed her. It was so stupid. I felt she wrote all that just to add more drama and angst when it was so unnecessary. Jonah was ok, I suppose. He was more real than everyone else. But Dani... She can just go suck an egg.. she was just so weak, not like other fmc that Tijan usually writes. I didnt' bother to finish.

Different

I've read many of Tijan books and this was one of the first that I felt like the actual story ment more then the love within the book. The book was in third person which I felt helped the story line as is made it less a romantic book but did hinder the book in the beginning. The writing in the beginning hinted at things but I truly had no idea what was going on for the first 20 mins.
