Description

Dan's survived a lot. Her mother died. Her two sisters loathed her. One aunt hated her. The other was strangely distant, but the worst storm was being dumped by her childhood best friend/high school boyfriend/first love for her younger sister. There went the one person who was hers and with that, the main reason she stuck around. So, she left for 10 years. But now she's back, and nothing's the same.

With help from Jonah Bannon, a reformed - kind of - bad boy she remembers from high school, Dani uncovers family secrets that have spanned generations. And along with those, she's about to face the biggest storm of her life. Only this time, she may not survive.

Speechless

This is the second time I've read this book and it hasn't lost its appeal. Still one of my favorite books.

Tijan really captures the meaning of love and loss in the book.

Again one of my favorite books.

I DIDN'T WANT THIS ONE

I DIDN'T WANT THIS ONE TO END!! I LOVED IT! I JUST WISH INSTEAD OF DOING A QUICK CHAPTER TO END IT, IT WOULD'VE LASTED A BIT LONGER!

Ehh

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I don't really know, it's really hard to listen to for a couple of reasons.I love Tijan I was following her when she was on wattpad, but this plot was really slow, the story was hard to follow, but in her defense starting a story after something big happens and then recapping is really hard to do so A for effort. Dany seems like an amateur character, like this was TIjan first book, but Fallen Crest High was better then this and that was her first book.

What didn’t you like about Sarah Mollo-Christensen’s performance?

I didn't like how hard her S's were, especially while having headphones on it's really cringy and definitely dragged the story down. It actually makes me want to listen to another story, and get a refund.

What would have made this romance irresistible?

I didn't even know it was a romance, it really just felt like a drama. I'm actually really surprised, most books have romance but it doesn't mean it's a romance genre, I really feel it was a drama.

Any additional comments?

Like I said I love Tijan but I know she could do better then this book. And audible needs to step up their narration game

Excellent

I really love Tijan books. This one kept me guessing, I had some theories, but none of them panned out. Sarah Mollo-Christensen is amazing narrator. She does really well at adapting voices to match characters. She’s one of my new favorites.

I don't get it.

Positive first, I think the narrator of the book was really good she gave each character their own voice.

Story Review: Even though Tijan stories are high drama and teenybopperish I usually enjoy them. However, this one baffled and irked all the way through. The book lacks the main ingredient that Tijan is known for, LOYALTY. All the characters were contradictions. The backstory or mysteries were pretty confusing.
Dani comes home after leaving town broken hearted 10 years early. Why? because she survived a tragic experience and felt that it was time to stop running from her past. IMO seeing who and what came home to didn't make it seem like that was the place for her to heal. Nothing in the story makes me understand why any of the people she left behind has the right to be angry with her. The only person that she should have maybe cared about is her Aunt Mae but even she was questionable since she tries to justify Dani's sister's betrayal (while she strongly held on to her own grudges) Plus, she kind of let Dani down not stepping up sooner. We only got to know the surface of each of the characters which made it hard really understand the characters motives. The backstory about the family got really confusing to me and was too messy to figure out. I think I got the gist of what the writer was trying to say, that Dani comes from a long line of betrayers and that history keeps repeating itself when it comes to the women in this family. The Jonah and Dani romance was cute and comfortable which is the only thing this book has going for it. I was really hoping that a few people got put in their place but I was sorely let down. In the end, I think that Tijan tries to put too much in the book and was unable to make fully developed storylines.

Tijan Lovers BEWARE!

First of all, I love Tijan’s books. If you are looking for a Tijan style book, THIS ISN’T IT. If someone handed me this and didn’t tell me who wrote it, I would’ve never guessed Tijan and I would’ve stopped at the first chapter.

I had to stop in the middle. I loathe books written like this one. There’s thousands of books out there just like this by many authors and I never read them! I would have NEVER chosen to purchase “Home Tears” if it wasn’t written by Tijan. I’m sorely disappointed.

Is it well written? Yes, but I don’t like boring well written books. I like surprisingly good story lines.

Is it a dramatic romance? Yes. It’s irritating.

Is it written for new adults? No. It’s adult.

Did you like the narrator? Not at all. I wear earbuds and she hurts my ears.

Did you like the characters? No. I had a really hard time connecting with any of them and hated pretty much everyone. Even the main character was annoying when she wasn’t crying or talking about bad dreams. The guy she supposedly falls for—days after running away from her fiancé—isn’t even entertaining. He’s supposed to be an adult bad boy, but he’s boring and way too nice.

I’m so mad that I was duped.

At the end of the day, Tijan is obviously looking to expand her readership and has made me wary of her new work. I’m extremely sad about this.

She is a pioneer in her style and has always been an inspiration to me. I’m questioning why she has so drastically changed. Whatever the reason. It’s disheartening to say the least.

Another good story

This is another well written story by Tijan. I am amazed by the abilities of this author to weave a story so complex yet humanly simple. This story will tug at your heart and give you hope. So sad when it ended cause I just didn’t want to leave the characters. Narration was perfection. I am so going to listen to this again.

not up there with tijans others

Tijan has a way with words and again this story is technically well written... but it just had nothing on the other stories. A totally different genre really but it just didnt work for me. the ending the whole plot really... a whole lot of twists and turns but just didnt really get me in the "feels" sorry. id recommend if on special but wouldnt pay full price.
