Description
In the spirit of Evicted, Bait and Switch, and The Big Short, a shocking, heart-wrenching investigation into America’s housing crisis and the modern-day robber barons who are making a fortune off the backs of the disenfranchised working and middle class - among them, Donald Trump and his inner circle.
Two years before the housing market collapsed in 2008, Donald Trump looked forward to a crash: “I sort of hope that happens because then people like me would go in and buy”, he said. But our future president wasn’t alone. While millions of Americans suffered financial loss, tycoons pounced to heartlessly seize thousands of homes - their profiteering made even easier because, as prize-winning investigative reporter Aaron Glantz reveals in Homewreckers, they often used taxpayer money - and the Obama administration’s promise to cover their losses.
In Homewreckers, Glantz recounts the transformation of straightforward lending into a morass of slivered and combined mortgage “products” that could be bought and sold, accompanied by a shift in priorities and a loosening of regulations and laws that made it good business to lend money to those who wouldn’t be able to repay. Among the men who laughed their way to the bank: Trump cabinet members Steve Mnuchin and Wilbur Ross, Trump pal and confidant Tom Barrack, and billionaire Republican cash cow Steve Schwarzman. Homewreckers also brilliantly weaves together the stories of those most ravaged by the housing crisis. The result is an eye-opening expose of the greed that decimated millions and enriched a gluttonous few.

We all have an obligation to read this book
Be prepared to lose the last thread of humanity you thought existed and yet be inspired by the people who fight against it. This is a must read jaw dropping account of one of the biggest story’s of our lifetime. The transformation of home owners to renters, the blatant heist of the average Americans wealth.

Amazing book - I hope it changes things and mobilizes people to take action!
These vulture capitalists need to be stopped and held accountable. Not rewarded with top govt positions or heralded as icons of “success.” Thank you Aaron for writing this powerful expose. I hope your next step is to go on the speaking circuit and get the dialogue started. 99% of the population has no clue what is really going on or how their wealth was hijacked by these charlatans.

Boring and misleading
Get this if you want to spend hours listening to some fruitcake wax on about things like:
* How it's unconscionable that banks would expect you to pay as you agreed in the contract you signed
* How banks should give you your house if its value goes down
* The excruciating details of the domestic lives of various people you don't know or care about
* Race relations in the 1940s
* How it's even more unconscionable that landlords raise rents from time-to-time
* Why banks are to blame for everyone's bad decisions
Save yourself the credit.
If you want to hear stuff like that, take your hippy cousin to lunch.

Amazing and Terrifying
This is my first review of an audiobook, and I must say that it would take a lot for me to go out of my way and share my thoughts on a book. That being said, I think that everybody (ESPECIALLY people in the finance industry) should read or listen to this book. This book tells a detailed history of financial markets, real estate investments, and follows the incredible stories of individuals hit the hardest by the Homewreckers.
I studied finance in my undergrad and recently started working in the high finance/commercial banking sector and while I really thought I understood the history of my fielf, I was gloriously mistaken. This is one of very few books that has completely altered my perspective and I will recommend it till the end of time. Thank you for this masterpiece, Mr. Glantz.

Please listen to this book!!
I now understand the greatest cause of wealth inequality since the Great Recession. I now understand why Los Angeles area rents are egregiously high for many of my friends. What these Homewreckers have done to the American home market is shameful. Owning as many homes as they do, they can price fix like near-monopolies. This book is an eye opener!

Great book that breaks down the housing crisis
I have a special kind of hate for the people that profited from so much economic hardship now. The book details how the wealth of many was strategically taken from millions of people. These are the people that are now in charge of making policy for the rest of us who (financially) survived the recession.
I've always known what happened, but the detail and the stories that were told in this book really resonated with me. Some people only care about wealth.

Disingenuous, but interesting listen
This book is interesting in the historical perspectives of the 2008-9 real estate crisis. However this book is an example of yellow journalism, to-wit:
- Having an LLC to protect against liability is not being deceitful, it is being prudent to protect your personal assets against lawsuits in the most litigious society in the world. Many small "mom and pop" people who rent their property (since we cannot rely on government in old age) use LLC's to protect ourselves.
- If you use a hair dryer in a bath tub you should be electrocuted. If you trust late night ads to take out loans against your property, then you are in trouble. The main issue here that people lack financial literacy.
- Steve Mnuchin and Wilbur Ross did all the things described during the Obama presidency. The suggestions to using TARP money to bail out homeowners was rejected by Obama administration as it was not feasible.
- The mention of Jared Kushner is total yellow journalism. If he was not Trump's son-in-law no one would have bothered to write about him. There is nothing illegal in Kushner's activity. The same tax laws to take advantage of depreciation is available to small time property owners like myself and the yellow journalist who wrote this book.
- Somehow this is all tied to Trump and his dad. Trump, Mnuchin, Ross and Tom Barrack are no angels. But neither was Steve Jobs, Jeff Bezos or others.
-What does Louis Litton posing semi-nude have to do with all this ??
The fact is that laws including tax laws are written to incentivize people like Mnuchin, Trump and others. The same laws are available to us to reduce our taxes. How about educating the public to use the same laws, get wealthy and reduce our tax burden?

Information Tainted by Political Bias
The credibility of the information is lost due to the political bias and blatant attempts to only profile and smear people on one side of the political aisle.
