Have you ever fallen in love against all odds? Discover what happens when a house has its own lessons to teach in this moving and insightful memoir that ultimately shows us how to make our homes (and lives) better.

In this mesmerizing memoir-in-essays, New York Times best-selling author Erica Bauermeister renovates a trash-filled house in eccentric Port Townsend, Washington, and in the process takes listeners on a journey to discover the ways our spaces subliminally affect us.

A personal, accessible, and literary exploration of the psychology of architecture, this book is designed for homeowners, remodelers, and those who are simply curious about how our built environments shape who we become.

I have no idea what made me purchase this listen. However I totally enjoyed it. I’m not a writer but she made me want to get my own little shed just for myself. Thoroughly enjoyed the story of the house renovation. Made me realize that nope, this is something that I never want to do. I’d rather pay someone else to do it for me.

Unexpected Surprise

I am disappointed in the narration. I felt that the narrator was trying far too hard to enunciate every syllable. It became annoying very quickly.
The story was interesting but the constant throwback to “when I was in real estate” and citations of other authors was tedious.

Narrator spoiled the story for me
