À propos de cet audio

Do you find yourself regularly sacrificing your own wants and needs to make others happy? Do people take advantage of your desire to be helpful? Are you becoming exhausted or resentful from meeting the demands—real or assumed—of others? In other words, are you a perpetual people pleaser?

We all want to be liked and appreciated by the people around us, but some of us may let this desire dictate our choices and behaviors in a way that can become unhealthy. In How to Stop People-Pleasing, psychology professor Dr. Wind Goodfriend examines what drives many of us to sacrifice our well-being to please others and offers guidance on how you can set healthy boundaries and start prioritizing yourself. In five illuminating lectures, Dr. Goodfriend will help you understand where the approval-seeking impulse comes from, why some of us are so susceptible to it, the steps you can take to develop your confidence and sense of self, and ways you can enforce your newfound freedom from the expectations of others.

As Dr. Goodfriend teaches you how to tackle the three components that fuel people-pleasing—mindset, habits, and feelings—you will see how, despite your best efforts to be what everyone needs you to be, you ultimately can’t control what other people think of you. With the tools and perspectives provided in this course, you can break the damaging cycle of self-sacrifice and resentment and make the changes to become a better, healthier version of yourself.

Some of what was said I have heard before but there were a couple of parts that were new to me and I found useful. I liked the descriptions from her friends as seeing themselves as different animals in the way they people pleased, this made it very relatable for different styles of people pleasing that are used. I also found interesting the description of Self Discrepancy theory and how it can permeate your choices. This is a gift from audible and I think it is a good listen to either explain why it happens and can be so insidious and also to reinforce how to break the cycle. Awareness is key to understanding patterns so that you can then see them and stop them.

Useful Information

Just listened and found my self in a lot of what she talked about bout. I have ADHD and with this course
It gives me a tool to use to see when I’m people please. We know with ADHD that people pleasing is one of the biggest symptoms that we struggle with. I’ve learned so much about why I do it and strive for it for the dopamine, but with a tool like this to actually overcome it, and have reminders like the seventh seas to help overcome this part of my symptoms, and stop people pleasing. I just want to say thank you for putting this out there for me to find.

Just how much knowledge and inspiration she has.

For such a short 'course', there is a lot of filler here. I listened to it at 3x speed (I recommend at least 2x) and there were still sections that dragged.

Some good information though.

A lot of filler

Not very pertinent, and do not like the downplaying of her expertise. The author is constantly validating her views through proving that others think the same. People pleasing?

Disappointed

Nothing new or interesting here. Same old studies. Only practical advice is the last chapter, rest is all fluff, and even the last chapter is pretty trite. if you have time, it's free, it might be worth it for you... otherwise I'd pass

worth the price - if it's free
