À propos de cet audio

Rob didn't think of himself as anyone special, but when a pitch-black portal tried to wrap his best friend in chains, he stepped up without thinking and found himself ensnared instead.

His moment of heroism results in being torn away from everyone he knew and loved, kidnapped by an unknown force that leaves him with a note in his pocket stating: "Good luck."

After being thrown into the wilderness of Elatra, a hostile fantasy world ruled by levels, stats, progression, and bizarre video game logic, he finds himself entirely out of his depth. Armed with nothing but a sword and the clothes on his back, he sets out on his the first day, and almost dies. On the second day, he almost dies again. On the third, he began to notice a worrying trend. And almost dies.

It doesn't get any easier from there.

Overcoming the wilds is just the first step in his journey; the society of Elatra is incredibly hostile to humans, having just come off of a devastating war that left over half the population dead, and getting the locals to trust the last human in existence is a struggle in and of itself. Between being powerless in a world that hates him and suffering under a System that is altering his mind in unwanted ways, Rob quickly finds that monsters aren't nearly the biggest thing to worry about.

As far as LitRPG isekai adventures go, Rob drew the short straw in many ways. But that's okay - all the bullshit in the world won't keep him down. He'll carve out a place in this world with his bare hands if necessary. He'll survive, and then he'll thrive.

Whether anyone wants him to or not.

Great narrator, great characters kept me engaged and laughing at points, couldn’t put it down

Great narrator, book kept me engaged and unable to stop listening !

Nothing special, to be honest. It’s solid. There’s nothing really wrong with it, but it’s too introspective for me. Seems like every good fight has a chapter of introspection or self loathing before the final blow. I’m sure others really like that style.

Ok!

Really enjoyed this book, I did get a bit annoyed with how often the stats were read off. This has been addressed in the following books where only the changes appear at the end of the chapters which I do enjoy and then a dedicated chapter for the whole character sheet which is easily skippable.

A Classic Isekai With A Twist

I passed over this book once before - I'm glad I gave it a second chance.

The plot is an interesting twist on the standard LitRPG/Isekai genre: our main character ends up taking the place of his superior best friend and gets taken to a fantasy world by the gods (?). But there he discovers that a genocide of humans took place not too long ago, when all the other races joined forces to eradicate them as the greatest threat they had ever known due to their addiction to levelling up. Our main character now has to figure out not only how to survive, but also how to avoid the same fate as other humans.

The narrator does an excellent job, and the characters are fascinating and three-dimensional throughout. I found myself eager to listen to just...one...more... chapter, a feeling I don't get from most books.

I will be picking up book 2 for certain.

Wow! Great first book.
