À propos de cet audio

In Boyfriend Material, Luc and Oliver met, pretended to fall in love, fell in love for real, dealt with heartbreak and disappointment and family and friends...and somehow figured out a way to make it work. Now it seems like everyone around them is getting married, and Luc's feeling the social pressure to propose. But it'll take more than four weddings, a funeral, and a bowl full of special curry to get these two from "I don't know what I'm doing" to "I do".

Good thing Oliver is such perfect Husband Material.

I really loved the first book. This one, however, just felt like the author was under obligation to write another book and didn't want to break her contract. It was pretty much the same thing over and over again, just coated in different contexts.
For more context on my review.. I pretty much got through the first book in less than a day, but it took me almost a week to get through this one.
Great performance by the narrator, though.

Just Meh...

So. Many. Weddings.... I liked the attempt to show different ceremonies and what the social impact of them. I don't think this novel could have been told a different way... but I hate awkward speeches and there were just so many....

Good start and middle but I found the ending to be disappointing. Just felt rushed and not true to the characters

Good but disappointing

I think it was even better than the first one! Loved it so very much.

Wonderful

Overall a great story. Performance was top notch but the story was a little much at some points. I really liked the commentary on the various styles and types of weddings, as well as the introspection into marriage for the LGBTQ community. I will say, Luc was definitely more of a little shit than I believe needed to be at times, especially at the end, but damn it if I didn't love them all the same.

Still cute as the first

Good writing, good story but I hate angsty romance. I read books like this to escape my life and this whole book just made me feel anxious. Yes I’m queer. Yes these are important issues but I just didn’t really enjoy it

Gave it 5 but personally 1

I am genuinely upset that the characters didn't get married. Its like the whole book made a mockery of the insitution of marrage and the fight that LGBT people fought to get married. A fight by the way that is still (in some places) happening and that some people are trying to take away in North America.

It would have been fine if at any point the characters had been like "I dont actually want to get married but I want to be with you." (at any point besides the last 10 pages) I still would have been upset at the name of the book however. I am absolutely pissed off that a book called Husband Material did not end in a wedding, or rather ended with the two grooms running off together. I can think of a dozen ways I would have prefered this book to end.

But no, apparently weddings and marriage mean so little to people that it ended with no husband's to speak of. the promise of the title never coming to fruition and leaving us unsatisfied.

I seethed though the last half hour

I see this is now part of a trilogy - so I imagine the next book will be fatherhood.

Luc, the loveable mess, was a tad less loveable and a tad more an irritating egoist in this book, and the 4 weddings and a funeral homage means we all know where the ending went (and that weirdly felt both contrived and hugely real).

But overall this was just the book I needed right now. The writing is witty and clever, and the humour tends to be broad, but there are times when the issues are so very real and messy and relatable. I will defiinitely be getting Book 3 of London Calling when it comes out.

Narration was perfect

Emotional and lighthearted

Even though Lucien's whiny self-absorbtion got up my nose occassionally, I enjoyed "Boyfriend Material" because there was enough of a story and enough good humour to carry me through the annoying parts. This book, though, not so much. I kept stopping it and walking away in search of something more interesting. In the end, I abandoned the book without finishing it. I think it's because, like many sequels, the story felt forced and the plot was less engaging, so even the humour - which I really did like - wasn't enough to offset the annoying bits. That having been said, the narration is excellent. I'll probably seek out more titles narrated by Joe Jameson.
