In 1918, the world seems on the verge of apocalypse. I enjoyed this book.. but would still call it average. The spooky aspect was fun. I have two issues with this book. It was predictable. I guessed the ending near the very beginning. The bigger issue I had though was the performance. I found this reader's voice to be overly dramatic and morbid. She could be describing wallpaper patterns and still make it sound very dark and dreary. Maybe this was intentional but it bothered me a bit.

The backdrop is very good. There is Spanish Flu, spirit photography, war, teenage romance. Yet weak writing makes it a rather dull read. I have no problems with predictable endings, but it’s the writing really. So flat and uninspired.
