À propos de cet audio
A stunning new mystery thriller from the debut author everyone is talking about...
Anna hasn’t set foot in Glasgow for 10 years, for very good reason. When Anna, a criminology lecturer, does return to Glasgow from Rome, during the coldest winter in memory, tragedy strikes. While out with her best friend from school, Anna has a chance encounter with a former flame, Andrew, whom she later discovers dying on a blanket of snow.
She finds herself at the centre of the investigation as the star witness and embarks on her own investigation of the case. But Anna doesn’t realise the danger she is in and soon finds herself in trouble. When another body shows up who has links to the first victim, it appears that the motive may lie buried in the past.
As Anna gets closer to the truth, the killer closes in. Can she solve the gruesome mystery before the killer strikes again?

Less fortunately, MacKenzie draws out the story with subpar pacing (I found my mind wandering annoyingly often during the frequent plodding stretches of conversation unrelated to the plot), and has an odd obsession with breasts (every introduced female character includes an in-depth description of their cleavage, for some reason). The book is readable but noticeably imperfect.
As to presentation: Whole Story/QUEST Audio/W.F.Howes Ltd. absolutely did right casting a Scottish reader to deliver this audiobook - and Fiona McNiell is professional and undeniably creditable - but her rapid-fire cadence when reading Glaswegian dialogue occasionally makes her difficult to follow. I found that setting playback speed at 0.90X was required to make McNiell consistently comprehensible. Altogether, the narration is good, but another reader could have performed equally well.
Combining "decent" writing and "average" presentation, 'In The Silence' unsurprisingly rates 5 stars out of 10. As a 'Plus' selection, it was a satisfactory way to spend a couple of quiet afternoons.. but save your Credit for something else should they ask for one.
