Description

Ryan has died, been reborn as a dungeon core, defeated a necromancer, and made a number of friends along the way. Life, well un-life, is good.

However, everything changed when the demons attacked. With his dungeon town in danger and cultists scheming in the shadows, Ryan must decide whether to draw upon the darker side of his own nature - unlocking powers far greater than anything he has accessed before.

Something his new dungeon fairy seems suspiciously excited about. With his favorite adventurer, Blake, slowly accepting his new powers as a Specter of Balance, Ryan learns being a darkness dungeon means a lot more than just bones, zombies, and skeletal fight club. Apparently, the power granted by God of Death encompasses much, much more.

Unfortunately, Ryan learns the hard way that some things should remain dead....

Good but had problems

Overall the the story was fine and I got through it okay. The main problem I had was the pacing. Both the first and second book had slower more detailed sections devided by jumps in time. In the first book the slower parts felt like they were still moving even when it got a bit info dumpy and I never really felt bored. However, in the second book, especially at the beginning, things felt very dragged out and were full of exposition, and actually made me long for the time jumps, just to move the story along. I will point out that I never felt like I missed anything when jumps happened, in a good way, as the author did an adequate job explaining what happened in those times. The pacing did get better in the latter half of the book. I will be reading the next book but I just hope he fixes the pacing issues he had in this book. But I have to wonder if he was rushed on this one.

Couldn't finish, too many sheep

I just can't anymore with sound booth theater. I am going to make a point to not buy any more books done by them as in the last year everything they produce is just bad. First, sheep..... The Narrator cannot pronounce English words. He isn't doing a character accent, he just cannot speak English. Baasss room, Baasss mobs, aaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaa…. It isn't just that word. there are so many words that sounds like he is bleating like goat or sheep every time and it is like nails on a chalk board. God it is so annoying. He can't say Awe? or anything that rhymes with awe? Look I'll teach you how to speak. First say Awe, add and S at the end, Awe-sss, put B in front of it Buh-awe-ssss READS AS BOSS not bass, it is not a fish and humans don't bleat like sheep. If you are going to be a professional and read English as a living you need to actually be able to speak it. It doesn't matter where you grew up, or how the people you know speak. English doesn't sound that way. Nobody cares that a bunch of people say the word wrong so that means you should too and it is ok. No it is NOT ok. Second, this fairy need to be smacked. Like literally does nothing, forgets to tell MC anything then complains the entire time. And for some reason the MC just acts like that's ok? Did you know it is ok to be verbally abused in like every conversation you have with someone!? Yeah just put up with it because ???? Maybe the author thinks it is ok to verbally abuse men if it comes from a woman? Is the core even a man? maybe? Is the fairy even a woman? well w/e. Yeah..... No.... This book is bad. Bitchy woman, pathetic man, and a narrator who can't say words right. Chapter 6 and I cannot even focus on the story because BAAAAAAAAAAAA every other sentence. GG Returned.

decent, but annoying

why are characters whiny bitches sometimes? and why does the narrator growl unnecessary all the time??? like the phrase "the stone had a red tinge" does not need extra emphasis. should've just had Jeff Hayes do all the voices.

i really wanted to like this but....

OK I know the dungeon is not smart but dear God did he drop the ball so hard all the stars of the of the review fall out. Do you know when old TV shows felt like the ratings were falling they would add in that new character to spice things up and it would just dig the grave so far down that the show would get canceled that’s how I feel about the new fairy

Broke my suspension of disbelief

I like the first book and was excited by the new one. I was interested in the development of the dungeon, but once I got around the point where he listened to a clearly bad character to break a promise to his partner, i stopped the book and most likely won't pick it back up. The main character might not be the smartest, he isn't this dumb either. The new character added is clearly someone you shouldn't entertain their ideas.

A Solid Second Edition with Bone(us) Puns

This second book in the series takes all the good from the first and adds more to the story, the characters, and the world they inhabit. The author does well to build on the individual stories for each character, getting the audience invested in each one. The author also shows his continued love for puns both figurative and quite often literal. The only negative I can see is that the narrator tries a bit too hard to put emphasis in his words in an effort to show intensity in battles. It comes through a little over the top at times. Overall a great performance though. Give the author a hand (because he takes so many from characters) and give this sequel a try.

Great story line and great narrators.

SBT and Jonathan Smidt make an excellent team for this series. I have enjoyed both books in this series and I look forward to the next releases. I'm hoping the author can get up to one book every three months at least. We need good authors in this genre.

Good story, very repetitive

I’m not sure if this author has a 5yr or thinks his audience is 5 but this book might be better off listed in the young adult category. The main reason is that for every single action any character takes the history and reasons behind those events are explained over an over again like the listener can’t remember anything about the characters or story. It ruins his world building and the listener’s immersion. It would be better if he just told the story and assume we can keep up.

Great dungeon core gamelit

I really liked this story. I started on book two and did not listen to book one. I think I would have liked it a lot more if I had the whole story. That being said it was extremely enjoyable even without the whole story

This audio book has become my gold standard.

The author did a great job at pacing and with the overall story. The unique take on a ranking system really let me bite into the meta of the world. The plot hooks intrigued me and I look forward to the next.
