À propos de cet audio
A suspenseful, often harrowing yet hopeful odyssey through rural America follows a young drifter’s coming of age in an indifferent world, in this debut novel by comedian Louis C.K.
When Ingram is forced by overwhelming poverty and spiritual exhaustion to walk away from his home, he leaves behind a neglectful childhood on a dirt farm on a dead-end road. With no family, no resources, and no practical understanding of the world, Ingram’s only compass is the daily fight to survive and the narrow dream of one day owning a truck.
A picaresque novel set against the backdrop of working-class Texas, Ingram invites listeners to see the world through the eyes of a child who drifts through a tough American landscape of corn farms and oil fields, guided by diner waitresses, migrant workers, and criminals, trying to make sense of a world that doesn’t care about him anymore than a jungle or desert does for the creatures that toil to survive within them.
The reality Ingram discovers is wild and cruel, but filled with unexpected wonders. Though this young boy faces tornadoes, explosions, thieves, and rampant violence, his curiosity, humor, and resilience never dull.
As he begins to push against the tide of social and natural bad luck that seems to almost chase him, Ingram begins to forge himself into an individual with agency and the ability and right to choose his own moves, even if he’s not always prepared for the consequences.
Through Ingram’s journey, he begins to come to terms with a forgotten tragedy from his past that shapes the way he understands himself, his family, and his own place in the world.
It is excruciatingly painful at times , Sad at times and also extremely funny at times. To tell this story Louis adopts a completely different voice in terms of a 10-12 year olds way of talking who essentially do not get any education or had anyone to talk to.
Louis CK is an amazing writer and I can’t wait for the next one and also for this to turn into a movie or a show.
I knew it would be good but not this good

Not just good. It was pretty good.

I liked that I never knew where the story was going to take us. I’d try to guess and was wrong every time. I liked how Louie ck read the book for us.
I liked that it differed from Louis’ comedy but it also was still very Louis ck.
I liked how he touched on some very deep topics in a very real way that made a lot of sense.
I liked how the story left me angry, sad, lost, and happy,
I like how I can’t write a more comprehensive review because I’m stuck talking and thinking like Ingram.
I like that the it’s by PIG NEWTON books . True Louis CK fans would understand this.
My complaint is that Ingram said the word tornado and then acted like he didn’t know what the word tornado was - editor flaw?
Thanks Louis
Interesting, a lil boring, interesting again, insightful

writing is vivid and descriptive, and it kept me fully engaged from beginning to end. The story pulls you
in without ever feeling heavy, and there’s a natural flow that makes it hard to stop listening. What really
stood out to me was the message underneath the story. It quietly teaches you about resilience — about
not quitting, pushing through the hard moments, and keeping yourself going no matter what life throws
at you. It doesn’t try to preach; it shows those lessons through the characters and the way the story
unfolds. Louis C.K.’s narration makes a huge difference too. He reads it with the perfect tone and
timing, and it honestly made the book feel personal, almost like he was telling the story directly to me.
His delivery adds depth to the emotional moments and makes the motivational parts hit even harder.
Overall, Ingram is captivating, honest, and unexpectedly inspiring. It’s a great listen from start to finish,
and it leaves you thinking long after it’s over.
Captivating
