Description

The sequel to the genre-defining, landmark best seller Presumed Innocent, Innocent continues the story of Rusty Sabich and Tommy Molto who are, once again, 20 years later, pitted against each other in a riveting psychological match after the mysterious death of Rusty's wife.

Rusty is the prime suspect. Reunited with his charismatic lawyer Sandy Stern, he will do anything to convince his beloved son, Nat, of his innocence. But what is he hiding?

In an explosive trial which will expose lies, jealousy, revenge, corruption, and the darker side of human nature, Rusty Sabich and Tommy Molto will battle it out to finally discover the real meaning of truth, and of justice.

Ce que les critiques en disent

"Mesmerizing prose and intricate plotting lift Turow's superlative legal thriller, his best novel since his bestselling debut, Presumed Innocent....Once again, Turow displays an uncanny ability for making the passions and contradictions of his main characters accessible and understandable." Outstanding Rematch

Scott Turow returns to fictional Kindle County, Illinois to pit 'Rožat "Rusty" Sabich' (now a judge) with embittered prosecutor 'Tommy Molto' (who is bothered by the one major blemish on his career: accusations of prosecutorial misconduct during the failure to get a murder conviction of Rusty 20 years before). This sequel fashions a similarly complicated crime; secrets, maneuverings, and ulterior motives among the participants; and unsurpassed courtroom drama (the cross-examination on the stand in Part III of the book is genuinely gripping).
Turow's characters are pathologically unlikeable - the book is definitely imperfect - but this is great "Legal-Thriller" fare.

Doubtless, incredible narration from Edward Hermann (with Orlagh Cassidy reading the handful of chapters from a female character's POV) contribute to my favorable impression of the book. Both display remarkably emotive tones that bring the text to life. If you are given a choice between a text (paper or eBook) version of 'Innocent' or the recorded iteration, take this one every time.

Altogether, this Hachette Audio production merits 9.5 stars out of 10. It's frankly better than 'Presumed Innocent'.. and if you liked that one, you'll love this one. Can unreservedly recommend.
