I recently listened to this story, and overall the plot and character development were engaging. The tension, especially around the mafia boss character, was well written and had the potential to be incredibly immersive.
However, I did find it difficult at times to stay fully in the scene due to the narrator’s delivery. The male narrator has a noticeable lisp, and because he is portraying a powerful mafia boss, it created a disconnect for me. When I imagine that type of character, I expect a certain vocal tone — deep, commanding, and intimidating. The speech pattern made it harder to fully buy into that persona.
That said, this is more about personal expectation and immersion than overall narration quality. The pacing and clarity were good, and the story itself remains strong. Some listeners may adjust quickly and not find it distracting at all.
If you’re someone who is particularly sensitive to vocal characteristics in audiobooks, I would recommend listening to a sample first. The storyline is compelling, but immersion may depend on how well you connect with the narration style.
