À propos de cet audio

Ages 10+

Fugitive. Criminal. Robot.

A sci-fi adventure for young listeners, Interview with the Robot introduces a unique heroine who seeks the truth about herself.

Eve looks like an ordinary 12-year-old girl, but there’s nothing ordinary about her. She has no last name. No parents or guardian. She’s on the run from a dangerous and secretive organization that will stop at nothing to track her down.

And most astonishing of all: she’s a robot, a product of Eden Laboratories. When Eve discovers the truth, she realizes everything she thought she knew about herself is a lie. Eve manages to escape, fleeing the lab, the only home she’s ever known.

After being arrested for shoplifting, Eve is interviewed by Petra Amis from Child Welfare Services. Her incredible story unfolds during the interrogation, with flashbacks to her life inside Eden Laboratories, which has a dark secret. Listeners follow Eve from her first moment of consciousness to her evolution as a nearly-human companion to Emory, the son of the founder of Eden Laboratories.

Exploring a range of topics that drive our society and our lives—topics such as artificial intelligence and human nature - Interview with the Robot is a story told by a startlingly original protagonist, a story that explores the vast potential of technology and the deep complexities of humanity.

This was quite the dark and dreary tale for a teen sci-fi, but it’s also beautifully written and the voice actors are outstanding.

A wonderful tale

It was so interesting and cool. It let me connect really well with the character. 100/100. Eve was relatable in a way. Also this is my fifth time listen to it.

Thank you!

This book uses a familiar but clever plot device (an interview with retrospective flashbacks) to explore a well-known SciFi scenario: AI and Androids living integrated with humanity. Obviously more Adult writers have explored the premise (notably Isaac Asimov and Philip K. Dyck), but Lee Bacon does a very nice job writing a reasonably challenging take on the proposition. Yes, it's written for a young audience and it's somewhat unoriginal, but 'Interview with the Robot' is well-crafted and filled with twists and pathos.. it's admittedly a bit adolescent at times, but still reasonably entertaining for an older reader (I no longer have little ones at home, for example, but quite enjoyed this take on the "Secretly an Android" paradigm). It should certainly provoke contemplation in imaginative youngsters.

The production standards are excellent and the full cast do an admirable job with the story. The "wipes" between real-time and flashbacks can be jarring and voice modulation is sometimes amateurish, but for the most part the performances are great and sound effects are used judiciously.

I bought this short story as a 'Daily Deal', and applaud Audible for making it free for download during the pandemic. Hopefully kids were stimulated to explore audiobooks, reading, and Science Fiction based on hearing quality (quasi-introductory) stories like this one. I rate the product 8 out of 10 stars. Even if it costs you a Credit, it's worth it.

Great Introduction for Future SciFi Fans

The book had me interested enough to listen to it in 2 parts. The only thing i have to complain about is the one character Emerson being way over whiny. Constant whining. Narration was spot on for other characters.

A bit better then I I thought it would Be

My 10 year old son and I have listened to this audio book multiple times. It is a fantastic novel. Really engaging how the voices and sound effects are performed. Cool, kid friendly concept on how AI becomes autonomous. We are hoping for a sequel continuing Emery and Eve’s adventures! I gave 4 on performance because Emery’s voice annoys me a bit- hope a kid actor is considered if there’s a next time

Sequel please!
