Description
The future holds all sorts of positive potential: technological advancement, increased life expectancy, improvements to society. But negative possibilities exist, too. Perhaps the worst of these is the arrival of an alien race - not just any alien race, but a hostile one intent on conquering humankind.
Hugh McDaniel lives in Queens, New York. He's a genius, and he has been struggling to pick one area to focus his life’s work on. His brother and best friend, Travis, is a marine officer. They get along very well, despite their differences. When aliens suddenly invade and destroy their entire culture, they are forced to struggle together in the ruins.
At first they just tried to survive; to collect food, medicine, weapons, and to find other survivors. But now, they've set their sights higher: on resistance and reclaiming their planet from invaders.
The enemy doesn't remain silent for long, and they start sending missions into the ruins, to gather humans and carry them off to unknown places with an unknown purpose. Hugh and Travis lead a constant battle against them; a fight against the enemy that will not end, that cannot end, until only one side remains. But Hugh has a forlorn plan: a way to, just maybe, defeat the impending massive assault on the humans of New York.
While Hugh frantically prepares his crazed operation, Travis leads the desperate mission to find the enemy and discover what they really want. And when he does, it is more terrible than anything he had ever imagined. He must return home to bring the news that the engagement between humans and aliens is absolutely a fight to the finish and that surrender isn’t even a possibility. But will he even have a home to return to?

had a lot of potential, yet poorly executed
I want to start off by saying I am not a professional novel critique and do not have the talent to wrote a book so take this with a grain of salt.
I have however listened to a buttload of sci-fi/post-apocalyptic audio books.
this started at decent enough, if RC Bray is narrating I usually give it a go. he is one of the best. unfortunately the writing turned extremely repetitive, often taking up large portions of a chapter saying nothing. for example(kinda SPOILER) how he would rather die than surrender or give up. or they are probably going to die, but he will fight on anyway. these two seniments were said in abundance during the novel, so much so I started to hope they would all die and the bad guys win.
There were a few times I considered cutting my losses and stop listening entirely but I like to finish things I start.
I think the story had a good premise and lots of potential. even if some of the story logic didn't make sense.
yeah, not the best. a hell of a lot better than I could do though and I'm sure the next thing thus guy writes will be better.
but what the heck do I know.

very poorly written
This was a very poorly written book. The author constantly repeated the same things over and over and over. This is the only book I have ever criticized. It was that bad.

I ended up going to last chapter
struggled to finish, there really was a good theme but it was so boring, repeating over and over "I may not live, but I will be brave and do my dammest" every character says this in different words (all men). Earth invaded, major city NYC, billions die, genius brother and military brother get the humans together to fight back, alien's reason is predictable. what was really nice was alien's point of view. ends on a cliff hanger...I can't be bothered to read on. I will try this authors other book series, you never know this could be a fluke and I hate giving a review like this. I choose this book as RC Bray is narrative.
