Histoire
It’s a freezing winter’s night in 1954. A baby boy, a few hours old, is left by his mother, wrapped in nothing but two sheets of newspaper and hidden amongst the undergrowth by a canal bank. An hour later, a late-shift postman is walking wearily home when he hears a faint cry. He finds the newspaper parcel and discovers the newborn, white-cold and whimpering, inside. After being rushed to hospital and against all odds, the baby survives. He’s baptised by the hospital chaplain as Richard.

Growing up, Joanne suffered at the hands of a violent boyfriend and controlling relatives, as her mother lapsed into a downward spiral following the break-up of her marriage. But the consequences of her mother's lifestyle turned out to be worse than Joanne could ever have imagined. She already knew about the baby buried in a shallow makeshift grave next to the family plot. But when Joanne came across a red plastic bin in her mother's wardrobe in 2009, she realised that the family home held an even more sinister secret.

It was 1949. Abortions were illegal. She was 17 when she gave birth. She was my mother...This audiobook chronicles the effects the birth of an unwanted child had on three families and three generations. The audiobook tells you about the bad decisions I made along the way, and the price I paid because of them.

Description
A heartbreakingly honest, endearing memoir of incredible weight loss by a young food blogger who battles body image issues and overcomes food addiction to find self-acceptance.
All her life, Andie Mitchell had eaten lustily and mindlessly. Food was her babysitter, her best friend, her confidant, and it provided a refuge from her fractured family. But when she stepped on the scale on her 20th birthday and it registered a shocking 268 pounds, she knew she had to change the way she thought about food and herself; that her life was at stake.
It Was Me All Along takes Andie from working class Boston to the romantic streets of Rome, from morbidly obese to half her size, from seeking comfort in anything that came cream-filled and two-to-a-pack to finding balance in exquisite (but modest) bowls of handmade pasta. This story is about much more than a woman who loves food and abhors her body. It is about someone who made changes when her situation seemed too far gone and how she discovered balance in an off-kilter world. More than anything, though, it is the story of her finding beauty in acceptance and learning to love all parts of herself.

So moving, so refreshingly honest
We often only see the "after" photo and think thin is the ultimate happy ending. The author is so honestly raw and tells her story so endearingly. Very good read.

As soon as I heard about this book I knew it was for me. I cried, laughed, cried a bunch more.. it was therapy! It’s given me a lot to think about. If you’ve ever struggled with self worth and/or food, this book is for you!

Oof. This girl is a tad dramatic and overindulgent in so many areas, besides eating and food. She kind of treats her really nice boyfriend like crap, even though he clearly bends over backwards to make her happy. He calls her kiddo, so the daddy issues are alarming… I don’t think 23 year olds necessarily need to be writing memoirs, her immaturity is grating at times. Oh goodness, and the read is quite long-winded, saccharine, and precious.

Tried to love it
Seemed like it was all about food. It didn't teach me anything, it was just one persons story and got annoying after awhile. Really wanted to like it but didn't.

I wanted to love it
I think I had the incorrect impression about the book.
I thought it was about how the fat girl lost weight and stayed true to who she was all along.
I just kept waiting to get pulled in to the story.
But truly, I usually was hungry after listening to the book, not something I wanted to happen.
Oh well, I won’t love them all!
