Description

Aubrey St. James is in trouble. She's locked in a cell at a government black site. She doesn't know where that site is or how the hell she got there. But she knows that it has something to do with the stranger she rescued from the river. Someone - or something - called Johnny.

Saul Tarson knows that the thing he's locked up is dangerous, because it left a trail of six dead cops in its wake, all killed in a way that defies explanation. It is Saul's sworn duty to get to the truth about Johnny before more people die - a lot more.

All Johnny wants is to return home. But he has a mission to fulfill first. And what he does in the next 20 hours will either save mankind - or bring it to its knees.

Johnny is the new breakneck science fiction thriller by Audible listener favorite D. J. Molles, New York Times best-selling author of The Remaining series.

Narrated by Marc Vietor with additional voices by Scott Aiello, Lauren Fortgang, Amanda Ronconi, Therese Plummer, and Josh Hurley.

Ce que les critiques disent

"Marc Vietor narrates Johnny's earthly adventure in a deep, sombre tone reminiscent of the voice-overs of televised stories of extraterrestrials....his portrayals of the resigned alien and the berserk agent make this alien breakaway compelling listening." (AudioFile)

Surprisingly good!

I bought this book on a whim, thinking it would be okay, but nothing special. It was actually a very great story, something that a movie could be made from. The characters were good, narrated was good, and it didn’t have any boring or slow parts. I’d recommend this one to anyone who likes fiction with a little bit of sci-fi

A graphic thriller not for bed-time listening

I picked up "Johnny" as a daily special, not knowing anything the author or the story line, except that it was sci-fi. I was blown-away by the psychological intensity of the story set in current day Oklahoma and New Mexico and points in-between. The metaphorical descriptions were intriguing and the pacing of the writing was excellent for each episode. The author makes frequent use of first-person narration by the main characters that shares with the reader their most intimate thoughts and backstory. The main premise of the story -- telepathic aliens arriving sporadically around the planet with vague intentions -- was not well developed but the reader was obliged to figure it out along with the human characters. Only at the very end is some closure given to the human characters who survive. The action in the book was often very graphic and anxiety-inducing, so I would not recommend it for bed-time listening. If you enjoy the psycho-sociological sci-fi stories of Ursula K. Leguin or C.J. Cherryh. you will likely enjoy this book.

Good story, bad writing

This was a pretty good story written by a pretty poor wordsmith. And although the characters were well drawn I didn't really like anyone but Johnny.
I was singularly unimpressed with the actual writing ... when the only adjective or adverb used is f*** it is so egregious that its shock value is totally muted and the going becomes just plain tedious.
Use your imagination and our marvellous English language to draw a picture, to define a character, to flesh out a situation ... that will give us something worth reading! In other words, work on the craft!

Slow, verbose, familiar

This relatively short story felt drawn out, and to make matters worse the narrator tries to give the story some character with a sleepy performance that didn’t work for me. I considered not finishing several times but kept my hopes up in vain.

Excellent story

The story although fantastic was a tiny bit draggy at times and I would lose track. The narrative grates on nerves after a while.

That being said, the book was well written and the characters so well portrayed that at the end you will miss them. I am not much for science fiction, but the reviews were so good I took the chance. If I was to read the book I would not have been able to put it down until finished. Well done.

Wait for It

This one's a long, slow climb sprinkled with some suspenseful moments to a predictable end. But the reading is excellent and there is a lot of heart, as we hope there is in humanity in general.

X Files on Acid

Ok, OK know thats a strange heading. But think about this book. If aliens come to earth, will they be saviours or invading colonists? Have to read it to find out. Things change time and time again. Very good book turns things and what we believe on its ear. Give it a try. Thought provoking amid very solid narration. Fine Audible production.

What an amazing book!

I wouldn't normally choose this book based on the premise, but I would read anything DJ Molles writes! I enjoyed this book very much. I feel like I will pick up on even more the second time I listen to it too. As a guy that doesn't read too much SciFi (outside of the zombie/plague/dystopia genre), this reminds me of an Robert Heinlein novel, upgraded by DJ Molles' incredible descriptive abilities. I highly recommend this book/audiobook.

And for those die hard Christian Rummel fans, you will not be disappointed! Marc Vietor does a great job!

Audible only/Great Story line

Didnt know what to expect on this stand alone novel by Molles. It is unlike anything I have read or listened to by this author. (Possible Spoilers) But I boght it because he is a good writer. And while it was different and started slow it also began very fast as we find a woman being held against her will questioned by an agent of AGA(Another Government Agency), the man questioning her is determined to break her even though she is not his target. That one lies in a cell elsewhere; he is a traveler come to give us a gift. They are connected and he will go through any length and means to get the answers he wants. But no one will listen to the truth and the agent and scientists involved only want to interroate and dissect him. They will not go beyond the fear of the unknown yet the thrill of it is intoxicating. One wants truth, his truth, no other will do, the others want knowledge and accolades yet all hearing only what they want to hear and believe is the truth, their truth.
Now the woman, Audrey and the Traveler, Johnny, must somehow escape to get him back to his world before it is too late; either the doorway he walked through will disappear or he will not be the same as when he arrived unable to continue.
It is a fast timeline they must meet and all the while being hunted by the one agent that no matter what he hears or knows the real truth, cannot afford to let the traveler escape.
It's really good if you like the Sci-Fi ET angle with a bit of Close Encounters of the Third Kind. I dare say this would make a great movie of the week or an Original NetFlix or Amazon Prime Movie. ***Story is in Audbile only***

Cool book

Very interesting story. The book starts off with death and water boarding and only gets better. As you learn who the characters are and watch them all struggle to survive and figure out what is going on and who this Johnny really is. My only frustration was the characters taking so long to figure out the obvious but that is a slight issue that is lost in the excellent story and the end. The end is full of emotion and hope and will leave you thinking! DJ Molles remains one of my favorite authors and narration was great!!

Great story by DJ Molles. Johnny was an exciting story that kept a good pace. I could hardly stop listening. The reader does an excellent job of relaying the story in a way that draws you in.

Intriguing, left me thinking of my own life and idiots who surround me....

The story did well building on the characters. It made me take sides and understand, it made me hate the ignorance of the others. I found myself thinking of it at night after a listen, and used the perception it seemed to impart to me to analyze the actions of others around me. Those who truly showed honesty, good work ethics and integrity, I've decided to cling to and imitate. And then those.... Fools. The ones who, like sheep, are strung along breath by breath, consuming the world around them like amoebas, driven by their feelings and emotions, allowed to have children to train them in their own stupid footsteps, and then who turn and look at me like I'm some twisted, wrong thing who should be hung high in the middle of town square as if to say "why aren't you like us?"
It's a good story. Id prefer less F-Bombs. I look forward to more stories from this author. Marc Vietor is awesome and didn't disappoint.

Wow. Great writing, perfect performance, and intriguing story.

I loved the combination of raw and ethereal elements. I felt some echoes of Heilein's Stranger in a Strange Land.
Definitely a thinking persons sci-fy

Here's Johnny!!!!

Wow. What a ride. If this is indicative of the in-house productions from Audible, we all have a lot to be excited about. Great production, rollicking yes suspenseful story, and a classic ending ( with the promise of potentially more to come! )

A solid performance by Marc Vietor, a thrilling ride by DJ. Gosh, you sure can't beat it for the price either!

Highly recommended.
