À propos de cet audio

Founder of the largest indigenous Christian church in American history, Joseph Smith published the 584-page Book of Mormon when he was 23 and went on to organize a church, found cities, and attract thousands of followers before his violent death at age 38. Richard Bushman, an esteemed cultural historian and a practicing Mormon, moves beyond the popular stereotype of Smith as a colorful fraud to explore his personality, his relationships with others, and how he received revelations.

An arresting narrative of the birth of the Mormon Church, Joseph Smith: Rough Stone Rolling also brilliantly evaluates the prophet's bold contributions to Christian theology and his cultural place in the modern world.

Very detailed with a faith based but balanced view point. What an incredibly interesting story!

Very informative

Like many other reviews mentioned before, the narrator did not take the time to learn the pronunciation of basic words such as Zion. It became pretty annoying throughout the book but since the book was so well written I just tried to ignore it. If you are interested in Joseph Smith this is a must read/listen.

An amazing book with a mediocre narration.

Most of audible titles are self help in nature and I am blown away by the care and attention of the narrator. As a member of the church searching for answers on the history of Joseph Smith, I am glad to have "read" this book. It doesn't avoid the difficult questions. if you are a member of the church stunned by the ces letter, I testify this audio book is one of the ways back to belief in the Joseph Smith Jr., Prophet of the restoration.

Best narration I have heard.

I was hoping more from this, but it just seems like a very long Sunday school lesson. Adding long passages of Mormon scripture specifically the D&C followed by the authors obviously apologetic interpretations. I expected something a little more secular and objective from a scholar. I’m not sure I learned anything new. Brodie was far more insightful than Bushman is. The narrator too, bleh! He dramatizes in the subject’s voice and at times sounds like Methodist preacher.

Apologist preaching
