À propos de cet audio
More than a mere overview, the audiobook offers listeners a strong grounding in the basic principles of Jung's analytical psychology in addition to illuminating insights.
"Probably the best one-volume English language summary of Jung's thought." (Choice)
"Himself a widely regarded analyst, Stein presents Jung's major theoretical contributions in language as uncomplicated as the subject allows...Aimed at the general reader but sufficiently academic for the specialist, this is an excellent basic book on the subject." (Booklist)
"Writing for the general reader, Stein provides an outline of Jung's basic concepts that is clearly written and indicates some of the distinctions between Jung's thinking and Freud's." (Publishers Weekly)

Our senses are what make life worth living. They allow us to appreciate a sip of an ice-cold drink, the sound of laughter, the touch of a lover. But only recently have incredible advances in sensory biology given us the ability to understand how and why our senses evolved as they have. In this book, biologist Ashley Ward takes listeners on a breathtaking tour of how our senses function. Ward looks at not only the five major senses—vision, hearing, taste, smell, and touch—but also a host of other senses, such as balance and interoception, the sense of the body’s internal state.

Amid the ravages of economic depression, Germans in the early 1930s were pulled to political extremes both left and right. Then, in the spring of 1933, Germany turned itself inside out, from a deeply divided republic into a one-party dictatorship. In Hitler's First Hundred Days, award-winning historian Peter Fritzsche offers a probing account of the pivotal moments when the majority of Germans seemed, all at once, to join the Nazis to construct the Third Reich.

In 1929 Stalin launched his policy of agricultural collectivization - in effect a second Russian Revolution - which forced millions of peasants off their land and onto collective farms. The result was a catastrophic famine, the most lethal in European history. At least five million people died between 1931 and 1933 in the USSR. But instead of sending relief, the Soviet state made use of the catastrophe to rid itself of a political problem.

In her international bestseller SPQR, Mary Beard told the thousand-year story of ancient Rome. Now she shines her spotlight on the emperors who ruled the Roman empire, from Julius Caesar (assassinated 44 BCE) to Alexander Severus (assassinated 235 CE). Emperor of Rome is not your usual chronological account of Roman rulers, one after another: the mad Caligula, the monster Nero, the philosopher Marcus Aurelius.

The Origins and History of Consciousness draws on a full range of world mythology to show how individual consciousness undergoes the same archetypal stages of development as human consciousness as a whole. Erich Neumann was one of C. G. Jung's most creative students and a renowned practitioner of analytical psychology in his own right. In this influential book, Neumann shows how the stages begin and end with the symbol of the Uroboros, the tail-eating serpent.

In 1957, four years before his death, Carl Gustav Jung, psychiatrist and psychologist, began writing his life story. But what started as an exercise in autobiography soon morphed into an altogether more profound undertaking. The result is an absorbing piece of self-analysis: a frank statement of faith, philosophy, and principles from one of the great explorers of the human mind.

Trauma and Recovery is revered as the seminal text on understanding trauma survivors. By placing individual experience in a broader political frame, Harvard psychiatrist Judith Herman argues that psychological trauma is inseparable from its social and political context. Drawing on her own research on incest, as well as a vast literature on combat veterans and victims of political terror, she shows surprising parallels between private horrors like child abuse and public horrors like war.

Being and Time was published in 1927 during the Weimar period in Germany, a time of political, social and economic turmoil. Heidegger himself did not escape the pressures and his nationalism, and undeniable anti-Semitism in the following decades cast a shadow over the man, but not the work. Being and Time is not coloured by expressions of his later views (unlike other writings) and remains an outstanding document.

If we all want love, why is there so much conflict in our most cherished relationships? To answer this question we must look into our evolutionary past, argues prominent psychologist David M. Buss. Based one of the largest studies of human mating ever undertaken, encompassing more than 10,000 people of all ages from 37 cultures worldwide, The Evolution of Desire is the first work to present a unified theory of human mating behavior.

Colourless Narration
I appreciate the products provided thru Audible. The nature of my work permits me to listen to a great deal of content that I'd otherwise not have time to read. Hence, I am grateful for all those who lend their voices and reading skills to these books. Certainly preferences for a style of reader are ultimately subjective in nature. In nearly all instances I've been able to adjust to a reader's abilities and listen for the content. However, in this one instance, L. Earnhart's reading of "Jung's Map of the Soul", I was unable to listen for the content because the narration was so unpleasant to my ear. I even doubt that a human being has actually recorded this content which sounded mechanical, monotone and breathless.

Good book, difficult narration…better getting the print version
The book is very good. However, even though I was already familiar with the key jungian concept, I had a difficult time following the narration. It kept a fast pace all throughout the book when it should have slowed down when key concepts were explained. Had to play back many times various passages. Better getting the printed version that is a five.
