Description

From New York Times best-selling author Penelope Ward comes a new stand-alone novel.

The beginning of my sophomore year in college was off to a rough start.

On the first day of orientation, I had an altercation with an infuriating British dude in a campus bathroom.

(The ladies’ room was out of order. So, I used the men’s room. Don’t judge.)

I got home later that night and realized that the foreign student we were expecting to rent a room in my parents’ house was allergic to our cat.

So, the spare room went to someone else: Caleb - the British guy from the men’s room.

And so it began...my love-hate story with Caleb Yates. Or was it hate-love in that order?

The guy knew how to push every one of my buttons.

Sometimes I’d email him to express my aggravation and disdain.

He’d actually rewrite my own words and send them back to me.

That was the type of infuriating person Caleb was.

So frustrating.

And...

Sometimes incredibly funny and endearingly sweet.

And hot.

He eventually grew on me, and Caleb soon became one of my best friends that year.

Too bad he was headed back to England soon, so nothing could happen between us - for so many reasons.

I definitely couldn't fall in love with him, especially since all we had was just one year.

Predictable.....

Penelope Ward is an amazing writer, but this one just did not hit it out of the park for me. Definitely a little disappointing. Story is cute.

Sexy and British...yes please!!!

This is definitely a serious slow burning friends to lovers romance, heart-achingly beautiful when they get there. Towards the end I just had to finish so stayed up late on this one, needed to get to that HEA!! Shane East-why I wish there were more books for you to narrate...just love him!!

Sweetness overload!

I loved this beautifully broken couple and their story. I couldn’t turn it off once it started. I know I will listen to this one over and over.

Beautiful Story & A Must Listen!

Every once in awhile there is a story that comes along and gives you "All the Feels" and Penelope Ward hit it out of the park with this novel about young love. Two characters who have their own baggage and heartache as children that find each other as adults in a fate-driven circumstance. While the story text alone is great, the narration team of Andi Arndt & Shane East completely gave a homerun performance making the words come to life. Andi is always great at turning a detached character like Teagen a space to belong and turning on all your emotions for her happiness to survive. Shane is impeccable in his delivery of not just the comedic, smart alec lines that Caleb spouts from emails & texts, but in the loss, heartbreak & falling in love moments quietly spoken.

All the feels is the best statement for this novel! Definitely going into the "repeat listen" category!

Meh

It’s ok. Kinda drug on at the end. That’s all I waned to say about it but it required more word in the review.

Enemies to friends to lovers...

Just One Year by Penelope Ward
Narrated by: Andi Ardnt & Shane East

3.5 Stars - Overall it was a sweet sort of enemies to friends to lovers story (they really did come along way there). The banter was great, you could really see Caleb and Teagan starting to grow their friendship together and connect. The dual narration was well done.

Looking for a low angst sweet collage romance?

💜 ℂ𝕠𝕟𝕗𝕖𝕤𝕤𝕚𝕠𝕟𝕤 𝕠𝕗 𝕒 𝔹𝕚𝕓𝕝𝕚𝕠𝕡𝕙𝕚𝕝𝕖 𝔸𝕦𝕕𝕚𝕠 ℝ𝕖𝕧𝕚𝕖𝕨 💜

Just One Year by Penelope Ward is a standalone contemporary, new adult, slow-burn romance with all the feels! From insta-enemies to friends, to lovers, this feel-good romance was exactly the kind of feel-good book I was looking for.

Although there is a little angst, it doesn't overwhelm the story. Plus the banter between Caleb and Teagan had me literally laughing out loud up!

Even though they didn't even kiss until just a few weeks before he was leaving there were still some steamy moments thrown in there.

All in all, I really enjoyed the story and could definitely see myself doing a re-read/re-listen at some point.

As for the audio, the book is a dual narration which is my favorite. Andi Arndt and Shane East did an excellent job, their voices were exactly what I was picturing in my head. Plus Shane's sexy British accent... super HOT, I could listen to that man read the dang dictionary!
