À propos de cet audio
“Christmas, I love you – but we need to talk.”
The gift pressure, the food squabbles, the travel nightmares… Christmas is a lot. Time to join award-winning comedian Katherine Ryan for her Christmas Intervention. Part seasonal survival guide, part family therapy session – you’re invited to a very Katherine Ryan Christmas.
Sure, Katherine loves the holiday, but she needs it to change. It's chaotic, overwhelming, and no one can agree on how to do it right. Between her extended family’s massive Christmas feud, her teenage daughter's idea that “festive spirit” means pumpkin spice lattes at the mall, and that one special year of aggressive gastric flu - something’s got to give.
In this new Audible series, Katherine sits down with her husband Bobby and daughter Violet to dig into their most memorable Christmas disasters and brainstorm some solutions to not just survive the season but actually enjoy it. That’s if they manage to agree on literally anything…
Along the way, she'll be joined by celebrity guests —her own personal Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future— to share their holiday disasters and ideas to help Christmas clean up its act.
So don a flimsy paper crown that breaks immediately, clear some space in the pile of ill-conceived last-minute presents, and settle in with the Ryan-Koostra family as they hold the season accountable and attempt to put the merry back in Christmas.
Episode 1: Family
After a major Christmas fight led to Katherine cutting off half her extended family, she asks: How do you survive your relatives when they push every single one of your buttons? Katherine seeks immediate help from special guests comedian Sindhu Vee and journalist Bryony Gordon, who share their own family holiday disasters. Meanwhile Bobby and Violet can’t seem to agree on the right amount of family for the Christmas guestlist.
Episode 2: Gifts
The tables turn as Bobby and Violet stage their own intervention about Katherine's gift-giving addiction. Is there such as thing as too many presents? (Katherine says no; storage cupboard says yes.) Will Katherine continue to make Bobby stay up til 5am on Christmas eve with toy-assembly and package-recycling? Comedian Josh Widdicombe shares an embarrassing tale of assembling gifts for his children, while Gavin and Stacey star Larry Lamb offers up the parable of the orange.
Episode 3: Food
Katherine is ready to tackle the biggest holiday stressor of all: The Christmas Dinner. No one in her house can agree on the menu. Will Katherine convince her family to embrace tradition, or will she succumb to their demands to fill the table with Christmas pizza and Yorkshire pudding sandwiches? Plus, Ghost of Christmas Past, comedian Tom Allen, shares his cautionary tale of engulfing a turkey in flames, and Bryony Gordon returns to offer a surprisingly low-effort solution to the holiday cooking chaos.
Episode 4: Travel
Home for the holidays or holidays away from home? Bobby dreams of escape, Violet insists on tradition, and Katherine's caught in the middle of this festive tug-of-war. Can you do Christmas travel without suffering a total meltdown? Comedian Sara Pascoe recounts the disastrous time she hit the road with her own family at Christmas, and psychologist Anna Mathur steps in with expert advice on how to better manage the dreaded travel plans.
Episode 5: Events
Is Christmas all about getting to do absolutely nothing or is it about constantly doing every panto, market, winter wonderland and party available? Once again, Katherine’s family cannot agree. Celebrity ghost Nick Mohammad shares the traumatic experience of having a Christmas disaster on stage and podcaster Anna Williamson tells Katherine what she learned the time she went overboard one Christmas.
Episode 6: Joy
The final intervention: After surviving family drama, present panic, and travel trauma, what's the real meaning of Christmas anyway? Comedian Fatiha El-Ghorri offers fresh perspective as someone who doesn't celebrate, while Larry Lamb returns to share how he found joy in the season after years of holiday heartache. Will the Ryan-Kootstras finally crack the code to chaos-free Christmas cheer?
