Emily Willows is middle-aged, widowed, wealthy, and bored. When she makes those flippant remarks to her son over coffee one Friday, she has no inkling that within a few hours she will be facing the most terrifying situation of her life. I thoroughly enjoyed volume one and coming back for more. One comment I’d like to mention is the reader seems to have a one monotone voice which personally I found to be a bit uninspiring.

Like other reviewers I struggled with the performer whom I know from Joy Ellis’ crime series to be an excellent guide through a good story.

Not sure what happened here; she improved greatly nearing the end when many voices and accents were required - became quite animated and interesting.

That said, this is a terrific story, and Grainger remains one of my favourite writers. Although it starts as a seeming-cozy mystery, this quickly amps up to be a thrilling yarn.

Had high expectations of this book. I am a huge fan of DCI Smith. This is quite different but I like the characters, and enjoy it tremendously.

My only complaint…too short
