1979. President Carter was in the White House. Three Mile Island. Odd-even gas rationing. Pink Floyd released “The Wall.” The Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan. Margaret Thatcher elected Prime Minister of the UK. The Iran Hostage Crisis. And disco…lots of disco.
In the wake of Theresa McKinley and Julia Bancroft coming out as a lesbian couple after years of being closeted, they stumble across The Pussykat Disco, a new club in Los Angeles catering to an LGBTQ clientele. While exploring the reality of being “out” publicly for the first time, Theresa (a senior partner at Madison, McKinley, and Moore Private Investigation Firm) and Julia (a former Top 40 Radio DJ on KBRD) discover that the club’s future is not entirely secure…and find their talents needed to keep The Pussykat Disco from closing, and the city from losing a special place to LA’s more visible and coming out LGBTQ community, of which Theresa and Julia are a part.
A coming out celebration (and the challenges associated with it), a slice of late 70s Americana, a pop culture and music cornucopia, a bit of intrigue and investigative action, a lot of dancing, and “More, More, More.” Put on your sequined halter tops and chunky heels and “Hustle” your way on over for a Last Dance at the Pussykat Disco!
