À propos de cet audio
"Jagger creates an exciting blend of police procedural and legal thriller that recalls the early works of Scott Turow and Lisa Scottoline." (Library Journal)
Newly licensed attorney Aspen Wilde joins Denver’s largest law firm to discover that an attractive, up-and-coming associate mysteriously vanished several months earlier and is presumed dead. She secretly embarks upon a brilliant but dangerous plan to trap the killer, only to find herself increasingly intertwined in a complex web of murders involving several different women killed in very different ways.
As she frantically searches for answers, not only to trap the killer but also to keep herself from getting trapped, her hunt collides with the ongoing investigation of Denver homicide detective Nick Teffinger, a man who has strayed into the edgy world of a beautiful suspect to find out if she is a murderer, a target, or something else altogether.
With the stakes suddenly higher than they could have imagined, Aspen and Teffinger find themselves spiraling deeper and deeper into a deadly vortex where nothing is as it seems and time is running out.
©2011 R.J. Jagger (P)2013 Audible, Inc.• Even the investigators are engaged in frequent (often-explicit) oral/genital sex between work assignments
• The murders are graphic and the dialogue exceedingly gritty..
Jagger revels in the dirt.
Fortunately, I'm okay with that kind of stuff (even the bound/drugged rape + necrophilia).
Furthermore, the author writes reasonably realistic characters, makes use of creditable vocabulary/prose, and plots the crimes and the investigation fairly well. I didn't hate it.
As to presentation: I was impressed with reader John McLain's voice-acting.. but found his near-robotic reading cadence and frequently uninterested tone off-putting. His performance is subpar, overall.
Altogether, 'Lawyer Trap' merits 5.5/10-stars. It was a decent distraction for a couple of snowy afternoons if you like uncomfortably violent/spicy Crime Thrillers.. but that's if you can get it from the 'Plus' menu. The audiobook isn't worth a Credit if they ask for one. Better options beckon for your money.
[Note: this book pushes some boundaries (I admit that it made me actually uncomfortable with the blunt coarseness at times). The heavy sexual content kinda makes sense given the overall plot/theme.. but you should still be aware of it if you decide to download the book]
