I like the concept but not the delivery

Not understanding patois can be very difficult especially as a Jamaican by heritage but not by culture. I’m a second generation Canadian and it feels demeaning not to be able to converse with the elders. I hope the author rereleases this book as a conversation piece and not just repeating words verbatim that sound exactly the same. Using them in a conversation would help people to apply the words and use them correctly. For instance
Water = wata
Chicken wing spot = chickn wing spat
Cotton candy vendor = cattan candy vendah
Creole restaurant = creole restaurant
The way the author delivered this book gives the impression that Jamaican patois is meeely incorrectly spelled English and doesn’t give a history of the beauty and significance of the language itself.

I think situational conversations like first day at work, first date, meeting the parents or what people might say when….. narrate the conver in patois an back and forth live conversation and then break it down in English.
