Description
Cate Granger and Jack Monroe are enjoying life far away from the deep-sea horrors of their past...but the ghosts still haunt them.
Russian billionaire and former friend Sonya Borashev tells them of a newly discovered cave in Antarctica that leads deep beneath the frozen continent. It's from these icy depths that Sonya believes a remnant species of megalodon shark has been set loose and that these ancient monsters are not only alive but thriving.
With a recent spate of horrifying attacks, Sonya leads an expedition to put an end to the monsters for good. And she wants Cate and Jack with her – whether they like it or not.
But beneath the dark ice, they uncover things even deadlier, even more dangerous than they could have ever imagined.

This book left me speechless!
Warning: the review contains a spoiler.
As a long time fan of Greig Beck I have to say I don’t know if I or anyone else who loves his characters should chance any more of his books. I was disappointed to lose the character Valerie but accepted that was realistic. This book however was horribly a downer. If an author wants to end a series fine, but don’t take it out on the reader by giving us a depressing crash ending. I use to listen to Greig’s books over and over but I have such horrid images from this book I shall not be able to listen again.

The Russians, again?
The "Evil Russians" who manage to always be better armed, better trained, and better funded are getting old. The captain of a rust bucket fishing trawler is a crack commando with military weapons who just can't lose. Really?? Mr. Beck needs to find new "bad guys" who are cruel, greedy, murdering sociopathic morons.

Some uncharacteristic storytelling
I had been eagerly anticipating this book for quite a few years now, eagerly awaiting the continuation of the adventure after Abyss (book 2 in the series) was published five years ago. However, I must admit that my excitement was met with some disappointment.
I won't spoil anything major, but there are a few minor details that become apparent early on. The story mainly revolves around the protagonists' encounters with Russian adversaries rather than the megalodons, which were the highlight of the previous books. It was a bit frustrating to see the focus shift so heavily to the Russian poachers, relegating the magnificent megalodons to a side plot. The introduction of even bigger creatures as their new enemies reminded me of Steve Alten's books, where the authors tend to escalate to grander monsters, diverting from the original essence of the series.
Let me clarify that it's not a bad book per se, but I couldn't help but feel somewhat detached from the characters and the story. The pacing felt rushed towards the end, which is a recurring issue I've noticed in Greig Beck's writing, as also seen in the second book of the Journey to the Centre of the Earth trilogy.
Despite these criticisms, I still appreciate the effort and creativity that went into the book. Knowing that this is the last in the series brings a mix of emotions. While I enjoyed the read, I can't help but feel a tinge of sadness that there won't be more adventures with the megalodons and the characters I've come to know.
I have one final gripe. I have always thoroughly enjoyed Sean Mangan's narration. He is up there with the very best. However, in this book, he made some very uncharacteristic mistakes. For example, he pronounced "megalodon" one way for the first half of the book and then differently for the last half. And then, just as I stopped getting irritated by the weird pronunciation, he reverted back to his initial way of saying it. As a long-time fan of his narration, it was surprising to encounter such inconsistencies, and it momentarily took me out of the immersive experience. Nonetheless, Sean Mangan remains an exceptional narrator, and despite this minor issue, his talent still adds a lot of life to the characters and the overall storytelling.

Not bad
Can’t say I’m happy with the ending to this series, but if you like horror and fast based sci-fi it’s a good book. Not thrilled with the narration. If you’ve listened to the other two books you know the narrator changes some pronunciation through out the books, but in this one he goes back and forth with some different words and it’s very distracting.

Not bad but would a more concrete story
Overall not bad, I really enjoyed the first 2 so was really glad when this one came out but didn’t really live up to my expectations. A lot a vague scenes and the monsters names where pronounced weirdly. I really wanted to like it and maybe just because I had more pictured, it didn’t really live up to that expectation but overall, not a bad story, just wish it tied up more loose ends and really got a picture of the creatures and not just a vague impression.

Kept my attention…
However, not quite up to Mr. Beck’s usual work. It felt very rushed at the end. I also feel like I’ve heard this same story elsewhere. To me, though, it was still a good read (listen), and worth my credit.

Definitely a great read!!!
As always such a great story from Greig Beck! Absolutely edge of my seat and when it all ends I’m so sad and don’t know what to do with myself. I love that he leaves his stories with the possibilities of continuing but still closing out the story as well. Sad at the loss of one of my favourite characters but don’t want to give anything away. Have a feeling this series maybe at its end now though. But then again, who knows???

Love Beck. This book? Not as much.
There was little memorable about this book. It's as if Beck just grabbed ideas from all over the place and shoved them into another big shark story. Note to the narrator: pick a pronunciation of 'megalodon' and stick with it! *Spoiler* leaving Yuri alive was stupid beyond words. And then to immediately discuss what a threat he is? Ridiculous way to advance a cliché plot. Maybe the author should spend more time on the awesome Arcadian series!

Good Story but Terrible Narrator
The third installment of this series was a good story, but the narrator spent the entire book mispronouncing Leviathan and Megalodon. It was really annoying and took away from the story. I suggest reading this book instead of listening to it.

Proper pronunciation needed.
Can someone please teach this reader how to pronounce Megladon and Leviathan... it is incredibly irritating and distracts from the story.
