Description
This program is read by William Shatner.
Star Trek legend and veteran author William Shatner discusses the meaning of life, finding value in work, and living well whatever your age in this fascinating audiobook.
"I have always felt", William Shatner says early in his newest memoir, that "like the great comedian George Burns, who lived to 100, I couldn’t die as long as I was booked." And Shatner is always booked.
Still, a brief health scare in 2016 forced him to take stock. After mulling over the lessons he's learned, the places he's been, and all the miracles and strange occurrences he's witnessed over the course of an enduring career in Hollywood and on the stage, he arrived at one simple rule for living a long and good life: don't die.
It's the only one-size-fits-all advice, Shatner argues in Live Long and..: What I Learned Along the Way, because everyone has a unique life - but, to help us all out, he's more than willing to share stories from his unique life. With a combination of pithy humor and thoughtful vulnerability, Shatner lays out his journey from childhood to peak stardom and all the bumps in the road. (Sometimes the literal road, as in the case of his 2,400-mile motorcycle trip across the country with a bike that didn't function.)
William Shatner is one of our most beloved entertainers, and he intends never to stop entertaining. His funny, provocative, and poignant reflections form an unforgettable audiobook about a remarkable man.

LOVE IT!
I loved this book. It definitely wouldn't have been the same if William Shatner had not read it himself. I was surprised to hear about his insecurities. His sense of humor is fundamental to his character as well as being entertaining. His sharing of his life experiences and lessons feel real and genuine. Great insight into his long life☆☆☆☆☆

We are from Montreal as well, but I now live in Douro-Dummer, Ontario on a 100 acres. Loved your book from the very first word you spoke. Hope you write an other on animals.

Better with Age, The insights of a Courageous Human Being...
I find comfort in listening to William Shatner as he shares how his perspective on life and how he has personally changed over the years, and how this is his journey, acknowledging his perspective is not necessarily ours. The fact he pushes himself to continue to progress simply by not being afraid of “saying yes,” and accepting the unknown... understanding life is what we make of it is very telling about the person, the spirit that resides within him.
I’m love the fact I am able to relate quite closely to his emotional experiences he has embraced throughout his life. Being able to look back upon his life and see that he has changed, his principles have morphed based on experiences is something we all need to embrace. Being able to except pain, emotional loss, is essential in our lifelong progression.
I suppose being able to tap into his experiences help me to better understand myself. The fact that he is able to open up and share the personal experiences that so many of us bury, or push away is a comfort to me. Knowing I am not alone in my struggles is a comfort.
Seldom do I find a connection with an author, a personality who actually is able to portray the progression he has had to fight through, the sacrifices he has made and then able to pull them together, understand them and improve because of them. I’ve come to learn over time that life is not perfect, we all have our individual crosses to bear. We all need to learn to except loss, and MoveOn. Hopefully, we will learn to except the harsh realities of life and put them in a perspective that with every experience comes growth.
I’ve read over the years every personal book William Shatner has written, and I find a kinship in understanding we are all on the same journey. I wish I could sit down and thank him personally for his insight, and his ability to share his innermost feelings and emotions of his life.
Of course, I’ve always been a fan of William Shatner, but being a fan pales in comparison to finding a kinship, and a connection to the actual individual.
I believe that by listening to other people‘s experiences, those who have been successful, those who are looked at as being in a success in their career, in their life shows us, demonstrates to us that they are really no different than the rest of us. They have achieved something that perhaps we have not, but they struggle through life the same way as the rest of us. This is a comfort to me, and hopefully you will find comfort in being able to understand what drives the man.
His philosophy is simple, “say yes and don’t be afraid to take on projects or jobs that may be scary, or uncomfortable.” Each and every time we put ourselves in the spotlight, we open ourselves up to praise, or ridicule. Being able to recognize that failure, is a progression. Failure is the quintessential teacher... being able to accept the lesson is a choice.
I can’t explain how much I appreciate when people are able to open up and share and let us know that even though they may be financially independent, and have achieved a great deal of success in their life, they are really no different than the rest of us.
I highly recommend this book to those of us who are still searching for an answer to life, and who may have given up trying to understand why we have to go through the things we do. I believe that this book may give a small perspective as to why it is important that we except what life throws at us and then try to improve upon it.

Revealing, yet Repetetive
It was good to hear William Shatner tell his own story. He’s had a very full, privileged life. His story is long, and a bit repetitive, especially about his love for animals.
Sometimes he comes across as self indulgent, sometimes...especially at the end....humble and self deprecating.
I had listened to Nimoy’s biography, was interested in hearing Shatner’s side of things. I still don’t know why they had a falling out, and neither does Shatner.
Generally a good listen. Mr Shatner’s “pause acting” phrasing is amplified here, mainly due to an old man trying to catch his breath while speaking. I hope I have as much to say and people who want to hear, if I ever get to be 87. ZIE GA ZINK, ZEIDIE SHATNER.

Got depressing at the end
I really like William Shatner as a performance artist and loved his previous books. This one is different as it has a lot of depressing content about death, dying and loneliness. I applaud Shatners honesty and emotion in this memoir but wasn’t prepared for the dark ending and depressing last third of the book. That’s why I downgraded the story while still appreciating the performance.

excellent performance
been a fan since 1970, he indeed has harness the wisdom of experience. since this is his own autobiography I'll refrain from any critique because it is what he feels and believes. my opinion does not matter or is asked for. thank you mr. Shatner for the many years of entertainment. and for letting us into your thoughts to get a glimpse of a wonderful man.

Gotta love Bill Shatner
You will not be listening to Captain Kirk tell his story. No. You are going to hear William Shatner tell you what he has learned from his, now 87 years on this planet and the imaginary ones off world.
Very insightful and if you have any sense of self, this book will get you thinking about your own life and how you live.
Say what you will about Mr. Shatner and his life, his thoughts, his actions and his work. He does produce and he delivers every time.

superb words of wisdom
Great biography however others will not have all the opportunities this author has had. His notoriety does indeed present him with wealth and world travel but the common lay person cannot follow his advice other than STAY ACTIVE! To Space and Beyond this influential man has led us thru. Thank you, William; Bill; Captain Kirk; and now: ROCKET MAN!

Captain Horatio Hornblower
Shatner speaks on his favorite subject: himself. I like him as a character actor. In that he excels, but not as a narrator.

Shatner Forever!
This book is just like the man himself, unapologetic and yet humble and empathetic, Bill is us. Me. The book is somewhat repetitive of prior works, but also in that repetition is a message that some things in life, especially the ones we wish we could do over or have a different outcome are worth repeating. Mulling over. Wondering over. Bill mulls, wonders and sighs, especially about the end of dear friend Leonard's life. Tragic. Finally a man who found that his own mother still to this day angers him far after her death. That resonated with me as did many things in this book did. He still works at a very advanced age. I admire that. He still writes books for us, even better. Bill was a spokesperson for Priceline. Now he is a spokesperson for others in our generation and advanced decade of life. I hope to see his one man show someday. Live longer and prosper further Mr. Shatner and please write more books.
