Description

Written with the same heartwarming sentiment that made the memoir Marley & Me a runaway best seller, biologist and owl expert Stacey O'Brien chronicles her rescue of an adorable, abandoned baby barn owl - and their astonishing and unprecedented 19-year life together.

Something unexpected around every corner

This book is totally entertaining and informative. Some of the information you will learn about owls, CALTECH Staff and Stacey's life and dedication to Wesley which is admirable, funny and unique.
Highly recommend if you enjoy people and animals together.

Surpassed Expectations

This is the most heartfelt telling of a beautiful relationship between Stacey & Wesley. It made me smile innumerable times, made me laugh out loud occasionally, educated me beyond what I expected & also made me cry. This story has changed the way I feel about animals & their sentience - I definitely feel more intune with & compassionate towards them. This story has appeal to a wide demographic of readers - I'll bet young kids would love to hear this as part of a bedtime story routine :)

I loved the story of Wesley the Owl

I never write reviews, but generally read a few if i don't know the author. I loved this book! I have birds and could totally relate to the authors view of Wesley. I started listening to it yesterday afternoon and couldn't stop. If you don't love birds it might not be for you, but if u love animals and connect with them, this book is charming and insighful. I would recommend this book to people that love animals or have school aged children. it is a wonderful story.

Charming and informative

Surprising and informative in its revelation of the abilities of a barn owl, charming in the experience of an intimate relationship, "Wesley the Owl" is delightfully read. I'm still musing over many memorable events of a shared life.

Disappointing

As an animal lover I couldn’t believe that Stacey kept Wesley in a room with other caged small birds. She mentions in the beginning that she would need to find homes for the the other birds but didn’t. Then two years later she witnesses Wesley killing one of her defenseless finches. This upset me so much I stopped reading. I would not recommend this book and I hope to get my money back.

4 the love of bitds

I have a 24-year relationship with my parrot who also thinks of me as my mate.
I just re-read the book for the 2nd time.
This story made me laugh, made me cry. The story is well told, well written. I came to love Stacey &Wesley. I miss them already. Narration is GREAT & I usually do not like female narrators as they mimic male voices.
Story is A+++
It is "The Way of The Owl. "

I’m a sucker, I guess....

I absolutely disappeared into this book; I mean TOTALLY ceased to pay attention to everything else going on around me! A sizeable amount of the story, I heard through my earbuds, mostly during physical therapy sessions. Another big chunk, my two teenaged grandchildren heard in my car as I trundled them from orthodontist to library to meeting their Dad to transfer custody. Since I live some thirty country miles from town, those jaunts involved lots of quiet time. I was amazed when they came out of their tablets and listened to the book instead!
The narrator was absolutely perfect, capturing the emotion as well as the excitement and scientific basis for various events and observations.
I love animal stories, not tearjerkers, but those that involve learning and building bridges between species.... this will be, and should be, a classic. It is perfect for almost anyone that can sit still long enough to listen to the individual events and sections. For the younger audience, that will break il into just about perfect lengths for restless kiddos.
LOVED THIS BOOK!! Multiply the stars, because three of us loved it!

Eye Opening!

This was a charming little story. You really can understand the life and psychology of an owl.

However, this story made me sad. The woman in the story had a very unhealthy relationship with this little creature. Because of it, I don't think she could ever have a normal life. She is a very kind woman, but I felt sorry for her. She lost herself.
