Description

From the show's creators comes the groundbreaking novel inspired by the Broadway smash hit Dear Evan Hansen.

Dear Evan Hansen,

Today's going to be an amazing day, and here's why....

When a letter that was never meant to be seen by anyone draws high school senior Evan Hansen into a family's grief over the loss of their son, he is given the chance of a lifetime: to belong. He just has to stick to a lie he never meant to tell: that the notoriously troubled Connor Murphy was his secret best friend.

Suddenly, Evan isn't invisible anymore - even to the girl of his dreams. And Connor Murphy's parents, with their beautiful home on the other side of town, have taken him in like he was their own, desperate to know more about their enigmatic son from his closest friend. As Evan gets pulled deeper into their swirl of anger, regret, and confusion, he knows that what he's doing can't be right, but if he's helping people, how wrong can it be?

No longer tangled in his once-incapacitating anxiety, this new Evan has a purpose. And a website. He's confident. He's a viral phenomenon. Every day is amazing. Until everything is in danger of unraveling, and he comes face-to-face with his greatest obstacle: himself.

A simple lie leads to complicated truths in this big-hearted coming-of-age story of grief, authenticity, and the struggle to belong in an age of instant connectivity and profound isolation.

Ce que les critiques en disent

"[A] particularly authentic first-person narration about family dynamics, the importance of kindness, and the horrors of not fitting in at high school.... A must-read." (Publishers Weekly)

"Yep, the hit musical will make you cry just as much in book form." (Entertainment Weekly)

"Even in book form, Evan Hansen's story sings. Required reading, especially for anyone who's ever needed to be found." (Becky Albertalli, number-one New York Times best-selling author of Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda and Leah on the Offbeat)

Cute Read

Characters were great. I cringed and celebrated right along with them. Snuck in a couple of songs from the musical too, which is fantastic.

Beautifully done!

I can’t think of another novel that has been kind of reverse engineered from a stage musical, but they’ve done a beautiful job here. Lots of original dialogue, song lyrics and even songs themselves are skillfully woven together with new information, new thoughts and ideas and wonderful new insights into the characters. Ben Levi Ross brought his work on stage into each of the characters. And Mike Faist is achingly beautiful in bringing us the deep life of Connor. Well done all!!!

Didn’t know a thing about it...

Of course I’d heard about the play but never paid attention to the storyline so I knew nothing about the story. I was surprised by the story; it wasn’t at all what I expected. I enjoyed it very much! It spoke to me on several levels and the narration was terrific.

Heartbreaking and wonderful

I had heard about the musical but didn't really know much about the story. I decided to give the audio book a listen since there were so many great reviews. They were not exaggerated. This was a beautiful, heartbreaking story.

It is a sad reality that there are so many Evans and Connors out there and parents and classmates who are not seeing the signs.

No one should ever feel that alone.

I highly recommend this book to teens and adults alike. You may find something in here that you are missing in real life.

Wonderful story.

Amazing narrators, heartwrenching story

Ben Levi Ross and Mike Faist are PHENOMENAL NARRATORS. And Mallory singing was the icing on the cake. Loved hearing more about Connor. Loved hearing Mike again. If you like the musical, or the Original Broadway cast recording, you'll love this, it's basically the musical but MORE. And Connor. Oh Connor ;-; I don't wanna spoil it but my heart broke about 500 more times after hearing more from him.

Thank you to the authors for writing this. Thank you for Miguel. I am a MESS.

Mind blowing

This book was a $5 deal on Audible a few days ago, a novelization of the B’way show.

I knew the premise. I was not prepared for how well they were able to capture the reality of suicide/suicidal ideation on the person and their family.

If you haven’t seen the show or read this, I strongly encourage you to take the time to do so. It expresses many of the experiences in a way families or the individual have never been able to share.

Great book and awesome message

I loved how this book makes me feel and act. The narrator Made it a little challenging to follow the plot because he never changed the way he talked when two different point of use were introduced. The chapter would end from Evans view and then immediately go onto Connors view and sometimes you didn’t realize that the character had changed until you were a little lost in the story.

there is hope beyond lies we tell and live with

Sometimes life does suck. Evan Hanson knows this intimately, but when a chance encounter with Connor Murphy, the boy who laters commits suicide, causes others to believe he was Connors only friend, Evan can't stop the lies from unraveling out of control. From obscurity to popularity, Evan struggles to maintain the false reality that gives Connor's family comfort. But nothing lasts and truth comes out. The enduring question of the novel is what should you do with the truth, the pain, and the loneliness. Evan, despite his fall, learns to live again.

Amazing book, Connor narrator was bothersom

I loved the voice of Evan however Connor’s narration had an act for having this ear piercing “hiss” on his S’s. Otherwise the book was very enjoyable. Can’t wait for the film.
