Description

Rex Walker used the second Bridge, and what he discovered will forever change humanity. Under the duress of Earth’s destruction, he finds a way home, and he’s not coming alone.

The Believers are fervent, hell-bent on guiding the incoming ships to fulfill their destiny, and the cult’s wide-spanning reach quickly becomes evident. Politicians, renowned corporate leaders, and countless others take to the field in collusion with their secretive collaborators.

Rex and Dirk are forced to make a decision that will alter Earth’s fate. One choice will result in their destruction, the other to redemption, but from their vantage point, the lines are blurred.

All paths collide in an epic conclusion you’ll never see coming.

Lost Hope completes the sweeping tale of The Bridge Sequence, by best-selling author Nathan Hystad.

Great last book, was really sorry to have it end!

The action picks up and we finish this series. Never a dull moment, always kept my attention. I normally don't have a lot of time to listen to audiobooks but with this one I kept finding ways to listen to it, I had a hard time putting it down. A great ending to the series! This would make a cool movie.

Again, I highly recommend this series - and anything Ray Porter reads is always going to be gold!

Interesting series that sort of ran out of gas.

Not to say it isn't good; it just seemed to be stretched out just a bit too far. However, the concept is fresh, and the characters are well-drawn and developed ( as well, they should be in a 3 book series ). Ray Porter does his usual impeccable job of bringing the story and the people in them to life.
That all said, the last half of this book, which should crackle and pop as it is the wrap-up, just seems to teeter and stumble. It could do with some editing. But, all that said, I recommend this series, with caveats.

Strong ending

What a great finish. You do have to read these in order and every book is an amazing story! This final book brings it all together and wraps up a great story. Could easily see a continuation of these characters and story line, 5 years in the future…

Exceptional End to an Exceptional Series!!

The final book in this series is one that is incredibly fast paced, with a multitude of smaller stories that all link together to create this final epic chapter in the Bridge Series.
It starts with Rex and the crew having returned with a small force of Rodax warriors, having successfully returned from their trip across the bridge in Book 2 to find some help. The Rodax have a plan that they think will stop the Believers and the unknown, those aliens that are coming on the objects that they call the ‘Zalt’.
However, they have returned to an Earth that is already under attack, the Zalt have begun their attack, the ‘attuning’ as they call it, in which they attempt to inhabit the mind of another being. Unfortunately, unless that being, Humans in this case, has been prepared for this intrusion, they cannot cope with the Zalt entering their mind, and they die a rather gruesome death. As Rex and his group return to Earth, they find the results of this in several areas, with thousands dead. As they make a dash across the planet to a secret store of Rodax weapons that might be able to help, they find that the Zalt have unleashed the Umir, deadly robots, sent to cull those who do not comply with the wishes of there new masters, but also to cut down the population.
Rex has a desperate mission, he has to not only stop the Zalt, he has to find an ancient book, one that will have the answers on how to stop these mind invasions and allow him to send them back to their ships. It is also up to him and his group to stop the Believers, led by none other than his Boss, Jessica Carver, “The Sovereign”.
This final book is just incredible, with so many different storylines wrapped into one, as there are so many different aspects of the story that have to be covered.
There are multiple factions and characters, with Rex and his group, including Veronica, Tripp, Marcus and then Rex’s Sister Beverley and her kids, Evan Young the FBI agent who went missing. There is also the enigmatic and ever incredible Saul, who seems to survive consistently to always be there to help. Rex’s Father is on Rimia, with Opor, although Opor is not who she seems to be, and this particular story is fascinating in itself.
Then there are the Freedom Earthers, led by Roger, who is not the crazy man everyone assumes, but is actually a very level headed leader, with clear goals, and may well be one of the only hope’s that Earth has. Roger has some allies, one being the brilliant radio personality Bill McCreary, who is just such an amazing character in this final book.
Of course, one of the most important Factions in this story are the Believers, a massive cult following that believes the ‘Unknowns’ are coming to be ‘with them’, and have spent their whole lives preparing for this moment. Led by the incredibly devious, intelligent, and powerful, Jessica Carver, the Sovereign and leader of the Believers, she is an exceptional character, one that is so incredibly well done, and that even in the final pages of the book, you really don’t know what to think of her, or her motives.
This is true of several characters, Hystad is such an outstanding Character Author that you are not only totally drawn to some of the characters, for example Rex and Veronica become quick favourites, but there are others (I’m not going to say who so there are no spoilers), but others in which you just have no idea of which side they are truly on, or how things are going to play out.
The other thing that makes this book truly extraordinary is the world building, quite literally. Hystad takes us to several different worlds through the bridge, Rimia, and to other places I won’t mention (again, no spoilers). What is common across all of these worlds is just the intense depth, and the incredible detail that he uses to bring each of the locations to life. Even on Earth, the descriptive work is stunning, you really feel like you are in each of the locations as he tells the story, he provides such rich mental images, you can see everything as it plays out, it is masterfully done, and makes these books just brilliant.
Lost Hope is a thrilling finale to what has been an enthralling and utterly fascinating series. Hystad is brilliant in that he creates these stories that are clever, creative, and a wonderfully unique look at the ‘Alien Invasion’ storyline.
Hystad’s story is compelling, and has a brutal realism to it, in that the main characters are not superheroes that can survive anything, they die, so don’t get attached.
This is easily one of the best Sci-Fi series I have read this year, and is an absolute must read for anyone who loves a good Sci-Fi story, whether it be Mil Sci-Fi, Alien Invasion, Space Opera or something else, you will not be disappointed by this series, or this finale, as the final is brilliant, and Hystad does a wonderful job of wrapping everything up so as to not leave any lose ends. Exceptional End to an Exceptional Series!!

dump the unnecessary content...

cigarettes serve absolutely no purpose in the story line,,, I can't find one reason to write them in,,, totally detracts from an otherwise great story.

Well done first contact/invasion/adventure story.

I just really enjoyed this, fun characters (I'm a Rex & Trip fan), a good mix of adventure & first contact. This last story particularly reminded me of Falling Skies the TV show. A fun read and a fun series.
