First drink. First prank. First friend. First love. Last words.

Miles Halter is fascinated by famous last words - and tired of his safe life at home. He leaves for boarding school to seek what the dying poet François Rabelais called the “Great Perhaps”. Much awaits Miles at Culver Creek, including Alaska Young, who will pull Miles into her labyrinth and catapult him into the Great Perhaps.

Looking for Alaska brilliantly chronicles the indelible impact one life can have on another. A modern classic, this stunning debut marked number one best-selling author John Green’s arrival as a groundbreaking new voice in contemporary fiction.

Ce que les critiques en disent

"What sets this novel apart is the brilliant, insightful, suffering but enduring voice of Miles Halter." (Chicago Tribune)

"A gem of modern literature." (Guardian)

"What sings and soars in this gorgeously told tale is Green’s mastery of language and the sweet, rough edges of Pudge’s voice." (Kirkus)

I wish I could forget about this book entirely so I could reread it for the first time again. 101% recommend although 13+ or an educated 11 year old

The story was a good teenage angst story. Easy to follow and enjoyable. The literary lightness I like to enjoy while out for my exercise. The part of this novel I loved was how well Wil Wheaton told the story. He gave life to each character and gave life to the story itself.
I and glad I did the audible version of this story.

Wil Wheaton made this come alive

Looking for Alaska is hands down one of my favourite books ever. I don't know why this book hit me so well but it did. It is not for everyone but if you want a deep look into life, loss and reflecting on those who are gone. This audiobook will give you much to ponder.

(Spoilers) I'm currently 21 days after and there has not been one mention of Lara. After being built up as a contender for main love interest, he cheats on her with Alaska then she becomes persona non grata and there's no grief experienced from her. With Takumi he was a constant background character, but Lara was hitting her crescendo and was effectively the successor of Alaska as the relationship was thanks to her. I think Mr.Green wanted to focus on the mental health low of post suicide, but there are so many better ways then to not only ignore her, but remove her completely. Likely won't finish.

Lara?
