A well written history of the Ottoman Empire. Carefully avoiding a western bias against this Great Empire. I would have appreciated if grand overall themes were discussed in more detail. Somewhat sleepy vocal presentation.

The Author is clearly knowledgeable and passionate about the Ottoman Empire - but his book is written and organized "by theme" rather than proceeding in a linear fashion through six centuries of history.

This book was enjoyable, but might make for better reading for someone with a decent knowledge of the Empire and it's structure as it's layout makes it difficult to absorb as primer for a reader just being introduced to the fascinating history of the Ottomans.
