Description

Ever since discovering that his mother is still alive, and being held captive by Lord Zelroth, Lusam has been tormented by terrifying nightmares. He soon finds that it's not only his nightmares which threaten to thwart his plans of a rescue, but also the King himself. New alliances are made and old ones are tested to their limits as Lusam's single-mindedness to rescue his mother causes him to take risks that he would never normally consider.

A recent discovery allows Lord Zelroth to set in motion a new plan, which, if successful, will once again tear open the Great Rift and release the hordes of Netherworld creatures into the world, as well as the imprisoned God, Aamon. The very survival of Afaraon, and, possibly, the entire world, may soon hinge on the decisions that Lusam makes.

Great Story in Dire Need of an Editor

I'm hooked on this story; it's really engrossing, but the prose has some serious flaws. I find myself wanting to shout at the author at least every five minutes. Terrible repetitive word and phrase choices collide with constant, superfluous, and redundant individual clarifications. The same 6 adjectives and descriptors used over and over. The same overused superlatives on every page.

There's about 20 pages with of words that could just be cut without any need for replacement. Just unnecessary, additional words that would not be missed if they had just been deleted from the manuscript.

Dean Cadman, I love this series and I will happily beta-read your work for free because you tell a really good tale. If you don't take me up on my offer, please find a good editor. I want to keep going with this series, but it's getting harder and harder to stay in the story.

Disappointed

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This book started really slow! The first few chapters, dealing with his headache, and subsequent cure, was far too drawn out. While it added a dimension to the story, a couple of pages would have sufficed!

Additionally, the author had Lusam lamenting, and whining, etc., instead of taking charge and taking action. The first books were much better.

Then the ending was also anticlimactic, in my opinion.

Great book!

Loved the book. Character voices were good by the narrator. Some repetition is there when concepts that were already explained comes up. Otherwise no issues with this book.

Simply Amazing

This book was simply amazing from start to finish, the story progession was absolute granted Neela still feels like she isn't important in the over all story like she's just there as a love interest. she had her moment a few times but after that it seems like 2 different characters, she went berserk killing about 100 undead and she's a professional ninja basically but when she's not in either off those elements she feels useless and a damsel in distress. other then that the book is amazing 8.5/10

I have a few issues with this series.

overall it's a pretty intriguing story there are just a lot of things that are beginning to really bug me. everytime anyone in this series survives some seemingly traumatic situation they are instantly right back to cracking jokes with eachother like nothing happened. also Lusam is apparently the only person on the good side that is really capable of anything at all. Alexia is the one other person that really has any noticeable effect on their effort aside from him, and that because she took some crappy bow the paladins had lying around to hunt with and has since been using the thing with deadly accuracy. ok I can get past the fact that that now should be woefully inadequate for what shes using but the second she killed a single mage with it the paladins should have commissioned a bow for every single paladin and as many arrows as possible to be blessed. But instead they just keep doing things like they always have not letting anyone else learn the bow and just relying on a single person with like 20 arrows to be the lone archer in their entire order, cuz obviously you want hand to hand weapons against mage that can throw projectiles and netherworld creatures with the distinct advantage in size and strength and usually speed. and perhaps worst of all the whole hermanguild thing, they talk constantly about how the temples of aesha are safe so why wasnt every mage parent just having and raising their children inside them safe behind their magical protections. I'm sorry for the rant, I'm going to finish the series but I highly doubt I'll ever revisit it.
