Hamlet, Shakespeare's most popular, and perhaps most puzzling play, follows the form of a "revenge tragedy", in which the hero, Hamlet, seeks vengeance against his father’s murderer, his uncle Claudius, now the king of Denmark. Much of its fascination, however, lies in its uncertainties. This new full-cast recording - based on the most respected edition of Shakespeare's classic - expertly produced by the Folger Theatre, is perfect for students, teachers, and the everyday listener.

This shattering drama of isolation and loss is one of the greatest tragedies in world literature. King Lear of Britain has three daughters: the hard-hearted Goneril and Regan, and the good and gentle Cordelia. He determines to divide his kingdom between them, giving the largest share to she who can say she loves him the best. Lear's tragic lack of judgment and self-knowledge is paralleled by the blindness of the loyal Gloucester who is persuaded to reject his virtuous son, Edgar, in favor of the villainous Edmund.

Shakespeare's most sophisticated comedy is a riotous tale of hopelessly unrequited passions and mistaken identity. Duke Orsino is in love with the noblewoman Olivia. She, however, has fallen for his servant Cesario, who is actually Viola, a woman disguised as a man, who loves Orsino: Confusion is rife. Meanwhile, Olivia's arrogant steward Malvolio is cruelly tricked by her uncle Sir Toby Belch, his friend Sir Andrew Aguecheek, and the maidservant Maria into believing his mistress loves him.

Histoire
While the powerlessness of the laboring class is a recurring theme in Steinbeck’s work of the late 1930s, he narrowed his focus when composing Of Mice and Men (1937), creating an intimate portrait of two men facing a world marked by petty tyranny, misunderstanding, jealousy, and callousness. But though the scope is narrow, the theme is universal: a friendship and shared dream that make an individual’s existence meaningful.

Better than expected! Helpful in the classroom.
Reading some of these reviews made me wary, but I needed quick access to an audio version of Macbeth so I purchased it anyway. I am glad I did! One person has commented that the book is difficult to navigate, but actually, each section of the audiobook is a different scene in the play. Yes, they are labeled as "Section One" instead of "Act One, Scene One" but knowing that you just need to hit Next to go to the next scene has made it pretty easy to find my place in the play.
I was also pleasantly surprised by the performance. I've listened to plenty of audiobooks from Audible, including several whose readers were painful to listen to. I think this cast is clear and engaging. I played a clip to my students, and they enjoyed it much more than other performances we had listened to.

listened for 10 minutes
Plays do not translate to audiobook. Sure, the Shakespearean prose is better when performed, but in a book or play there are visual cues about who is taking. In this full cast performance you must listen and hope the character announces themselves before speaking. But with so much dramatic soliloquy, it's impossible to know who is bemoaning the cruel twistings of fate.

Voice actors don't match the characters
The actors sound constantly out of breath and stumbling, like overly dramatic teenagers or Michael Cera. Not at all fitting for the figures King MacBeth and Banquo. Completely ruins the story hearing their uneven breaths and insecure delivery.
Especially after listening to the Tempest, narrated by Ian McKellen, this audio book sounds completely amateur .
Couldn't make it past the first thirty minutes.

Useful as a teaching resource alongside the text.
Would you consider the audio edition of Macbeth: Fully Dramatized Audio Edition to be better than the print version?
No, although it is very helpful to use when reading in class.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Macbeth: Fully Dramatized Audio Edition?
Some of the soliloquies are well-done, which helps when teaching as usually students tend to lose interest depending on the grade-level one teaches.
Did full cast do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?
Yes. It was clear which character was speaking at all times. However, some of the interpretations of the characters were a little hammy (witches), and there are more than a few dodgy accents in there. Despite this, it was still useful as a teaching tool and wasn't a distraction from the plot or story.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
N/A
