Meh

I’m only a few hours in, and I will aim at finishing this two book series. I liked the premise. But I’m having such a hard time emphasizing with our heroine. The gist - as a teenager a car accident destroys her dreams of being a gymnastics champion. And she does nothing with her life for 30 years. She wants to go back and change that one little thing— which will solve all her problems and she will live happily ever after. SHE IS OVER FORTY. I’m sorry, but if one is so invested in one thing in one’s teenage years that losing it makes them lose their drive to do anything else even remotely rewarding… do people like this exist? Move on. Find a new dream. I can’t connect with her at all, and I find myself rolling my eyes when she drops into another inner monologue of self-pity and self-loathing, like she has anything else to blame her dead-end life on.

I’m holding out hope that she will eventually redeem herself. But I’m honestly getting super irritated and may end up just returning this. And maybe the other book I bought by her, if this is a trend. Yeesh.
