It is a long time since I have enjoyed a book as thoroughly as I enjoyed Magpie Lane, which reminded me variously of Iris Murdoch, Ruth Rendell, Donna Tartt and Daphne du Maurier. I adored the narrator, and it was an utter joy to relish Atkins's wonderfully skilled and unobtrusive writing and lose myself in the mystery

This novel will keep you hooked right to the end. Lucy Atkins is a gifted writer, an astute observer, who sees people as they truly are. She writes about Oxford from an insider’s perspective; it is as much a social commentary about the elitist world of academia and the raging egos that inhabit it, as it is a wickedly good story. Add to that Susie Riddel’s amazing narration and you have a truly excellent listening experience.
