Description

The New York Times best-selling author Gail Carriger, writing as G. L. Carriger, brings her comedic voice to contemporary fiction and m/m romance.

Alex, marine biologist and werewolf, has seen better days. Unexpectedly alive, secretly gay, and haunted by a meddlesome, matchmaking ghost, he must now team up with very flirty mermen to save the city from sushi smugglers - and he still can't get a date.

A full cast of science-fiction and fantasy luminaries join together to bring Gail Carriger's short and sweet LGBTQ love story to life with full production audio by ArtisticWhispers Productions and original score by composer Danny Schade.

This is the prequel to The Sumage Solution.

Delicate sensibilities? This audiobook contains confused lovelorn werewolves and very pretty ex-Goth mermen who are exclusively interested in each other. May also contain fish, Irish mafia, and a shocking lack of tea.

Cute intro story to the series

I came back to listen to this novella after listening to the first two full length novels in the series. it was nice to have the background story to how the pack ended up so far away from their home. I didn't like the additional character voices so much, they just felt disjointed. I would assume that they were all recorded separately and then edited together rather than have a read through all in the same room.

Just okay

Some people might be a fan of sound effects. I am not one of them. The background music was particularly annoying for me. It sounded like someone added really unpleasant elevator music seemingly at random to the book.
It was loud and annoying.
Some of the sound effects were also really fake and unnecessary in my opinion.

Add to it the bad acting from the some of the narrators and for me it was a huge fail.
While I felt the story needed to be a bit longer, I’m not sure I could have forced myself to listen to more. J. Daniel Sawyer did a decent job at narrating, unfortunately the other narrators hired to do the voices (especially that of Alex the main character) were distractingly bad at acting. Every time Alex spoke it felt fake and forced. I’m not sure why they would not have chosen J. Daniel Sawyer to also voice the main character instead of just narrator all of the non speaking parts.
