À propos de cet audio

This entertaining and sharply written guide - for both beginners breaking into comedy and professionals seeking to improve their sets and advance their careers - examines the work of great comedians such as Louis C. K., Jerry Seinfeld, Eddie Izzard, Moms Mabley, Hannibal Buress, Sarah Silverman, Richard Pryor, and more as a means of illustrating the most important techniques of performing and writing stand-up.

Here, Stephen Rosenfield lays out a clear plan for achieving success, candidly explaining what works, what doesn't, and why. Including a 12-item "Successful Comedian's To-Do List," Rosenfield states, "Get undeniably good at each of these and you can kiss your day job good-bye. You will be a pro."

Worth it just for the chapter on The Voice.

It is a great break down of how Stand-Up works, the forms and delivery. I’d recommend this to anyone who just likes stand-up comedy.

Even if you don’t want to do Stand-Up

There are some tidbits of wisdom here, but I’m not sure it’s worth the time investment. Almost every single punchline he suggests is terribly hack, which is a glaring red flag from someone who purports to be a comedy professor. A large portion of the advice is either outdated, or completely obvious and trite; the type of thing that every human being would know before even attempting stand-up. There’s a lot of self-aggrandizing and a lot of self-congratulation. I could have done without the reverence for Woody Allen. But there are, to be fair to the author, some real nuggets of wisdom hidden within the slog. Overall I would say this is a good book, not a great one. I wish it were half as long, and that the writer spent less time patting himself on the back. I would trust him a lot more if he were funny.

Tough to rate

this is a book that throws a bunch of stolen stand-up material and claims it to be a guide on how to perform stand-up. Additionally, the author has a very heavy bias against one group of people that he inappropriately refers to throughout the book. Save your time, don't listen to it.

Terrible
