Description
Eve's name has made a Christmas list, but it's not for being naughty or nice. It's for putting a serial killer behind bars. Now the escaped madman has her in his sights. With her husband, Roarke, at her side, Eve must stop the man from exacting his bloody vengeance - or die trying.

Great story but seems to be short?
I’m never disappointed in a JDRobb story. This was a very good listen and as always, the narrator is amazing. I was disappointed though with how short it was. I was actually surprised when I realized it was coming to an end. Didn’t seem worth the credit I’d used to get it with how short it was. I guess I should have researched that it is a “novella” and not a full novel.

Nice Follow Up
The best thing about this book is that it is actually a follow up to Holiday in Death. JD Robb continues the holiday season in this short book and uses the mystery plot to complete how Dallas and Roarke complete their first Christmas/New Year's holiday together. Dallas finishes her gift giving to friends and colleagues, which further develops the growing character of Dallas. This is definitely a quick read. I would encourage anyone new to the series to read Holiday in Death immediately before reading this one. Although Robb fills in the blanks in all of her books so that you can read them out of order, this book is more enjoyable after Holiday in Death.

Short but Great
This one was really short, but still had a great plot and scenes with the minor characters, especially Mira. I also love Roarke when he gets all protective, even though Eve is more than capable of handling herself! Somerset trying to be civil was also a part that made me chuckle.
Another great listen!

Short and sweet, but plenty of punch!
Audible calls "Midnight in Death" number 7.5 in the In Death series, because it is a much shorter story (about one-third as long) than the full length books which are published every March and October. This story was published in a magazine in December 1998, two months after Holiday in Death appeared.
The action in "Midnight " takes place immediately after the ending of "Holiday." Eve and Roark have been home from finishing the previous case just long enough to open Christmas presents and catch a few hours' sleep when she is called out again. A man who she tracked down and put away for life four years ago has escaped, and tortured and killed the judge who sentenced him. He leaves a message that he plans to kill all the people who put him away before the beginning of the new year. Besides the names of several lawyers, Dr. Mira and Eve are the last names to appear.
As with all of the In Death series, there is plenty of action, abbreviated because of the shorter parameters of this story. But what I think is important in this story is Eve's realization, triggered by her knowledge that Mira is in mortal danger, of how important and dear to her Dr. Mira is. It is another step in Eve's progression toward becoming a fully caring and sensitive person.
The only fault I found with this story is that the ending seemed rushed. Of course, I have the same problem with many shorter works. All in all, I heartily recommend this story.

Pretty good.
At least Dallas isn't out of control and screaming all the time in this one! The story is well written and "complete" even though it is shorter than the other installments. Without revealing the mystery plot line, I can say it has been done before, but is done well here. I did figure out what was going on about 1/2 way through, but it was still enjoyable.
I still think that the Roarke character is highly unrealistic and too, tooo, tooooo perfect. It makes it more like fantasy ... nice fantasy.. but impossible for any real man to compete with.
The narrator, as usual, is excellent.
Yes, I'd recommend the book.

EVE
Guess I'm tiring of Eve and Roarke's erotica .. distracts from the story line

Eve and Roarke
Eve is not going to let one madman ruin her Christmas so she and Roarke pool their resources in this short to put him back into the loony bin. Fast pace with a punch.

Anthologies
I love the short anthologies, this being the first wade one of the tamest. They get stranger and more supernatural as they go. The stranger the better I say!

Another great story
Would you listen to Midnight in Death again? Why?
Loved this one. Well detailed, with interesting characters, which is a bit unusual for a novella in the middle of an established series. The ending was a bit abrupt, but logical.

Fabulous, engaging, humorous & satisfying
I am so addicted to having these friends/characters with me that I keep my iPod earphone in one ear at all times and whenever I take a break - like walking to get coffee at the other end of the office - I click on and listen for a few minutes.
Each book just gets better and better. I have recommended this series to everyone I know - im part because they need to know why I'm busy listening rather than chatting with THEM!!
