Jilly Farina is 14. Her father is drunk on the day of the Barnstable County Fair, so she goes by herself, and that night her life is transformed. When she walks into a tent to see Millroy the Magician, his eyes lighten from brown to green and fasten upon her. He performs miracles before her spellbound eyes. My German teacher recommended this book to me years ago, knowing my personality and interest in holistic nutrition, and sure enough I loved it. The characters and plot are quirky and overall unexpected. The audio narration is very good, though I’m not 100% sold on the male voice reading the female protagonist. Just a couple of wonky pronunciations throughout, and plenty of good differentiation in characters and tone. Listening to the book was most enjoyable.
