Description

Even monsters need doctors.

What do you get when you take fanciful creatures and monsters, add harem and cyberpunk elements, and toss in the adrenaline-fueled action and mystery of a movie in the vein of Bright? You get this book.

In a near future where monsters and humans coexist, Hieronymus "Jer" Bennington isn’t your run-of-the-mill psychiatrist. Despite losing his parents to a monster attack, Jer doesn’t judge people by the clothes they wear or the horns on their head. Instead, he runs a controversial clinic where he offers therapy to beastniks, but when his best friend’s suspicious death implicates him for murder, he hunts for the truth in a sexy-dangerous underworld filled with mythical creatures. As part of his journey into a place where fantasies and the stuff of dreams coexist, Jer teams with his harem of powerful monster women as he fights with his mind, a keen eye, and some really gigantic guns to unravel a conspiracy that cuts deeper than any claws or fangs and threatens already tense relations between monsters and humans.

What you need to know about the book:

Does it follow the adventures of a heroic but flawed character? Absolutely.

Does it have scenes of thrilling action set in a unique world you’ve never seen before? You know it.

Does it contain spicy scenes and monster girls? You bet it does!

Warning: This novel contains over-the-top action, undefined relationships/harem, monsters, succubae, mythic creatures, and a hero who is as tactful as a bull in a china shop. Listen at your own risk. Contains adult content. Seriously.

Intriguing

Monster M.D. is fascinating. The first thing that must be said is that this is not the typical harem fantasy. While it does contain a harem, it is not the focus and is used more as a part of the setting. Rather, the story is complex and deals with much bigger social issues while remaining a entertaining read.

Highlights:

Narration- Graves’ narration is excellent. I believe it to be his best work to date, as he really make the story come alive.

The Plot- The story was far more complex and directed than most other books that I have read in this genre.

Characters- The Characters were extremely intriguing to me, particularly from a psychological perspective, as every individual seemed to have several layers of motivations behind all their actions.

The World Building- This is without a doubt my favorite component of this book; the monster human dynamic, the monster subcultures, all combined to form an imaginative dystopian setting.

While I do recommend the book, it also should be said that this book has its fair share of flaws. However, I find myself overlooking them, as a major theme of the book is that people are beautifully flawed. So this book is not purely entertainment as I anticipated, rather, I find the world and characters to be fascinating and as such I would defiantly be interested in more books set in this world.
I received this title for free, in exchange for an unbiased review.

Morality rating- Monster M.D. contains harem relationships, explicit sexuality, language, violence, and drugs.

Good audiobook

I've only read a few harem books but this one was by far the better executed one because the harem elements aren't the main focus of the story. The characters had depth and the story was fairly complex. Also the narration was really good I'd really enjoyed this book.

An interesting take on social distortions.

this was my first book of the hareem variety and it was an interesting construct. the dichotomy between monsters and humans was analogous to several times in history and geography. In all it was an enjoyable story. I requested a copy of this book from the publisher without cost, and have voluntarily left this review.

Interesting but uneven

Overall, the story was interesting. A psychiatrist who works with monsters to help them work through their problems. But in the midst of a midget investigation, he must also divert a revolution.
The beginning was a little slow and spent way too much time introducing characters that would not play a role in the story until much later or not at all. I struggled to stay with it.
Once the real story really begins to develop, it does take off and in the end it was worth it. The resolution seemed final so it does not seem like a series, although it could probably be developed into one. The characters were interesting and the monsters were ferocious and neurotic at the time.
All in all, I do recommend the book because the story was worth it in the end.
The narration was deftly handled by Chris Graves who explores a new bank of voices not used in some of his other work. Very impressive.

I requested a free review copy of this audiobook and I am leaving a voluntary and honest review.

Beauties and the beast

Can a psychologist prove that Monsters and humans can co-exist? Co-operate? cohabitate? This story got off to a slow start but once Jasper died (sorry, not sorry Jasper) and Jer got introduced the pace picked up. By halfway there was a rollicking good chase going on and the characters were a lot less stiff and enjoyable. It was just a shame it took that long to get there.
The narration work was what really shone on the book and I don't know that I would have gotten through it otherwise.

Epic story and perfect performance

This story was amazing, full of adventure and with the perfect performance by Chris Graves, it was easy to get swept into the story itself fully immersed. I look forward to the next one!

The Doctor in and Adventure Begins!

Monster M.D is written by Leighton Lawless. The Narration is skillfully provided by Chris Graves. This audiobook has a total running time of 8 hours and 56 minutes. During that time the listener will discover a unique and complex world created by the author. This is not just a typical Monster Girl Harem Story. Honestly, until recently I did not know that was a thing or even a whole genre. Live and learn.

The main character is Hieronymus "Jer" Bennington. A psychiatrist in the near future; where humans and monster coexist. He lost both parents to a monster attack but offers services all humans and monsters. His best friend is murdered in a suspicious way that implicates him. Jer is on the run using all his contacts in the Monster World to find the truth.

The story does a good job of holding the listener's attention. There is plenty of action, there are some harem-style relationships but it is not the main focus of the story, the monster culture was actually interesting while Jer was on the run, and the just complex world the author was building in this story really held my attention. The story had some flaws and really overused themes and ideas like the suspicious murder of the best friend to put Jer on the run.

The narration by Chris Graves was just excellent. The voicing he did for each of these characters in this wide and diverse cast was enjoyable and highly memorable. This was a highly enjoyable audio performance from Mr. Graves. The publisher for this audiobook is Leighton Lawless Publishing. The production quality of this audiobook is also the highest quality. I heard no problems during the entire performance. There were not any detectable flaws that I was able to hear during the entire performance such as loops, breaks, or buzzing. The production was crisp and clear. Leighton Lawless Publishing delivered an excellent audiobook production. Man I dunno...

Previous reviews of this book convinced me to give it a chance, but I honestly can't figure out what others were seeing in it. The premise is sort of interesting, but the characters are flat, the dialog is laughable, the "psychology" would make a robot cringe, and the entire thing feels like it was stitched together by an intern on a friday afternoon. Even the Harem aspect (which is not something I was particularly looking forward to) was woefully under-delivered. The only thing about this book I can honestly praise was Chris Graves' performance, which was pretty good considering what he was working with.

Monster harems and plenty of action

So it’s happened, monsters have been outed and are real. How does humanity act? Makes them 2nd class citizens. Welcome back to class systems. Humans only this humans only
that. Monster areas that are cordoned off like reservations and require permission to pass in or out of. What happens if someone discovers something that would upset the current system? What lengths would the corporate world go to shut down that discovery or control it themselves? To what lengths would the monster community go to expose it? Listen and find out. Great story (not for little ears). I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator or publisher

Interesting Fantasy with a Sci-Fi Mix

I found the exploration of how humanity would react to the discovery of mythical creatures being real interesting although on the dark side of humanities possible reactions. Part of that dark side was a bit of a exploration of a social/corporate dystopia. The plot turned out to be more complex than I was expecting from what appeared to be harem book which was actually a fairly down played element. That being said it did have a bit of a uphill feel at around the 5 to 6 hour mark but I feel you stick with it the plot recovers from this feeling. Overall, I would listen to a second book by this author as it turned out to be a deeper book than I expected filled with genuinely clever characters.
