I really enjoyed Mortal Follies. The concept, of Robin Goodfellow narrating the love story of two women, and their misadventures, was refreshing and innovative. I would love to see another story in the same vein. As always, Alexis Hall’s humour is sprinkled throughout, and always makes his books so much more special. I loved the world building, and the addition of the fantastical to one of his worlds. The narration is excellent, and really creates the atmosphere of the story. My only criticism is that I felt the book, while a little overlong, had a rushed ending. Otherwise, would definitely recommend to other fans of Hall’s work, as well as newcomers.

I didn't like the frame story of the trickster fae telling the reader a story. I found all the narrator's asides to be tedious.
The sapphic love story was fine. The secondary characters were funny, as Hall usually delivers.

i loved the framing of the story from the fairy’s point of view; it was def sm to get used to at the beginning but it added humour + a fun level of both distance + intimacy to the characters that i really enjoyed; the book was lovely :)
