Description

He wants to remember. She needs to forget.... Memento meets Sharp Objects in a gripping psychological thriller from the New York Times best-selling author of Something in the Water.

“Twisty...highly imaginative...deliciously provocative.” (The Washington Post)

Who is Mr. Nobody?

When a man is found on a British beach, drifting in and out of consciousness, with no identification and unable to speak, interest in him is sparked immediately. From the hospital staff who find themselves inexplicably drawn to him, to international medical experts who are baffled by him, to the national press who call him Mr. Nobody, everyone wants answers. Who is this man? And what happened to him?

Some memories are best forgotten.

Neuropsychiatrist Dr. Emma Lewis is asked to assess the patient in a small town deep in the English countryside. This is her field of expertise, this is the chance she’s been waiting for, and this case could make her name known across the world. But therein lies the danger. Emma left this same town 14 years ago and has taken great pains to cover all traces of her past since then.

Places aren't haunted...people are.

But now, something - or someone - is calling her back. And the more time she spends with her patient, the more alarmed she becomes that he knows the one thing about her that nobody is supposed to know.

Praise for Mr. Nobody:

"Riveting." (Entertainment Weekly)

“Even better than Something in the Water, Catherine Steadman’s new novel, Mr. Nobody, is original, ingenious, and utterly gripping, with characters you’ll really care about as they race toward the brilliantly unexpected ending.” (JP Delaney, New York Times best-selling author of The Girl Before

"Even better than Something in the Water, Catherine Steadman’s new novel, Mr. Nobody, is original, ingenious, and utterly gripping, with characters you’ll really care about as they race toward the brilliantly unexpected ending." (J. P. Delaney, New York Times best-selling author of The Girl Before)

"Steadman once again brilliantly paces the action from the very first scene.... As in all good thrillers, lights unexpectedly snap out, a creepy house is hidden down a tree-woven lane, and long-buried secrets emerge.... A spellbinding thriller perfect for those dark and stormy nights." (Kirkus Reviews)

“The elaborate plot, filled with seemingly impossible twists, drives to a suspenseful conclusion.” (Publishers Weekly)

Fantastic read!

Way to go Catherine! Loved your first book but loved this one even more. Creative storyline, lots of suspense, I was only too sad for it to end! Please write more books soon!

Good preformance. Average story

Performance was great. Not as good as Steadman's previous novel. I felt that the ending payoff wasn't worth it

good, but "Something in the water" is better

I think that Catherine Steadman is brilliant. I loved "something in the water" and I was so looking forward to this book as well. It didn't grab me like the other one did initially, but it definitely had its plot twists and turns. I think there was an overall lack of suspense that I was hoping for. I will definitely look forward to her next one though

Enjoyable though some frustrating parts

Ultimately I enjoyed this and looked forward to listening more - the suspense was there and there were some parts I enjoyed very much and felt gripped as they were unfolding - but there were times I felt frustrated with the amount of exposition that sometimes made conversations so unrealistic that it distracted. But overall it was imaginative, layered, and enjoyable, hence the 4 stars.

Along for the ride

From Mr. Nobody to Something in the Water, it’s clear that Catherine enjoys an unhinged lead character. As long as you don’t try too hard to relate to the main character, you’ll probably have a fun experience. Otherwise you’ll be distracted by all the questionable choices they make... Enjoy the wild ride!

dissapointing

I was hoping for the ending to bring all the pieces together, but it was a bit disappointing.

Started out pretty good...

Then the author trying to tie everything together just didn’t make sense. I was hoping maybe there would be a nice twist at the end. Sadly, no. I feel very disappointed because the book was released with much praise from other authors and I really enjoyed “Something in the Water.”

Where's her editor?

As with her first book, she needs to tighten up her work. Too drawn out, especially the first half. Frustrating to listen to. If I had been reading this myself, I would have been flipping pages like mad.

Great writer!

Catherine Steadman is an excellent writer. There were a few lulls for me in the beginning of this with being overly descriptive in some areas but that is the only negative thing I can say. A great, well thought out story. I couldn’t stop listening. The writer reels you in and keeps your attention, she did her due diligence on research as well. I hate reading a book going “ that’s not right” . You believe in the main character and she’s likable. The suspense, the twists and turns, the story, the writing are all exceptional! Can’t wait for Catherine Steadman’s next book! Well worth the credit folks.

Disappointed

I loved Something in the Water & thought I'd found my new favorite author. This though was the slowest storyline that started nowhere & ended somehow behind that. I still have no idea what I listened to & will forever be sorry for the time wasted listening & trying to figure it out. The performance was the ONLY thing that kept me going. I haven't given up & believe she has another great novel in her but this one...isn't it.

Mesmerizing, gripping, thrilling, and original.

Catherine Steadman is my new favorite author. After her first spellbinding book Something in the Water, Mr. Nobody had a tough act to follow. But it was equally brilliant. Steadman writes and narrates her novels with such creativity, intrigue, and authenticity. She is the queen of the psychological thriller category.
