Histoire
The universe is conspiring against Ava Breevort. As if flying back to Phoenix to bury a childhood friend wasn't hell enough, a cloud of volcanic ash traveling from overseas delayed her flight back home to Boston. Her last ditch attempt to salvage the trip was thwarted by an arrogant Scotsman, Caleb Scott, who steals a first class seat out from under her. Then over the course of their journey home, their antagonism somehow lands them in bed for the steamiest layover Ava's ever had. And that's all it was - until Caleb shows up on her doorstep.

Minnie Cooper knows two things with certainty: that her New Year's birthday is unlucky, and that it's all because of Quinn Hamilton, a man she's never met. Their mothers gave birth to them at the same hospital just after midnight on New Year's Day, but Quinn was given the cash prize for being the first baby born in London in 1990 - and the name Minnie was meant to have, as well. With luck like that, it's no wonder each of her birthdays has been more of a disaster than the one before.

Can you fall in love like they do in the movies? It's Evie Summers' job to find out. Because if she can't convince her film agency's biggest client, Ezra Chester, to write the romantic-comedy screenplay he owes producers, her career will be over. The catch? He thinks rom-coms are unrealistic - and he'll only put pen to paper if Evie shows him that it's possible to meet a man in real life the way it happens on the big screen. Cynical Evie might not believe in happily ever after, but she'll do what it takes to save the job that's been her lifeline.

Description
The cozy comforts of an English village bookstore open up a world of new possibilities for Evie Starling in this charming new romantic comedy from New York Times best-selling author Samantha Young.
At 33 years old, Evangeline Starling's life in Chicago is missing that special something. And when she's passed over for promotion at work, Evie realizes she needs to make a change. Some time away to regain perspective might be just the thing. In a burst of impulsivity, she plans a holiday in a quaint English village. The holiday package comes with a temporary position at Much Ado About Books, the bookstore located beneath her rental apartment. There's no better dream vacation for the bookish Evie, a life-long Shakespeare lover.
Not only is Evie swept up in running the delightful store as soon as she arrives, she's drawn into the lives, loves, and drama of the friendly villagers. Including Roane Robson, the charismatic and sexy farmer who tempts Evie every day with his friendly flirtations. Evie is determined to keep him at bay because a holiday romance can only end in heartbreak, right? But Evie can't deny their connection and longs to trust in her handsome farmer that their whirlwind romance could turn in to the forever kind of love.

Story was good. Narrator terrible
The story was really a very cute, light read. I wish they had used different voice actors for the different characters. To be honest I found myself getting thoroughly annoyed with the cheesy accents and almost didn’t finish the book.

A delight to read
I REALLY enjoyed this book. It light and sweet and good for the heart.
I admit that the British accents are quite terrible and I completely understand how someone native to the UK would cringe but as a Canadian it was tolerable l, especially because the story was so enjoyable.

Loved it!
I give this book 5 stars because the attraction between the characters was romantically steamy and built up perfectly. The bedroom scenes were intimate without being pornopraghic. The perfect balance for me! Lastly, the characters were flawed and likeable. I found myself wanting to know what happens with some of the secondary characters in the book too. Hopefully there will be a book about Carol next!

Ehhh... Not Her Best Work
The connection between the main character and her love interest was weak and unbelievable. Individually, several characters were well developed. The story was predictable but felt like it was lacking depth all around.

Too many directions
I liked the book overall and really liked the lead male character Rowan, but the female lead was a little whiny and stubborn at times. The story went off on too many tangents instead of focusing on the main couple. It could have been made into a series.

No tension, dull plot, basic characters
I have a hard time believing the locals would actually like the nosy American tourist butting into their business. The MC seemed so obnoxious to me the whole time, inserting herself into everyone business, but at the same time refusing to deal with her own trust issues and her attraction to the love interest.
There was never any “will they, won’t they” in the story because her reasons for denying her feelings (not to mention stringing the guy along for more than half the book) always seemed so flimsy.

So cheesy I’m constipated
But seriously this book was bad. I almost stopped listening a few minutes in because 1. The narration is SO SLOW. I sped it up so it sounded normal. Also there’s not a lot of animation in the narrator’s voice. It just felt very flat. 2. Right away I was put off by some of the language & crass-ness. But I was driving & couldn’t switch books so I continued. It definitely got better & for a while I was happy I’d kept listening. But really the main character’s stubbornness got to be just too much and annoying. Then later her interest starts calling her angel. Seriously? He’s some tough farmer but he’s saying angel in what sounds like a Scottish accent to me yet he’s upper class British. I’m not saying I would always be repulsed by such a cheesy pet name, but it was so ridiculous I actually decided to stop listening. And I have this problem where I can’t stop listening to a book even when I don’t like it. But I stopped! Only the next day I hadn’t spent the time to download a new book so I plowed on and it just never got better. Only more frustrating because (and I don’t think I’m spoiling anything since we all know the “formula”) the main character got stupidly upset about something and over-reacted. Oh and then I still had to hear him calling her angel. I think I threw up a little in my mouth. And the sex scenes were unnecessary & trashy (I skipped through them once they started). I definitely wouldn’t waste money or a credit on this one. There are so many better books & narrators.
