Addie Greyborne loved working with rare books at the Boston Public Library - she even got to play detective, tracking down clues about mysterious old volumes. But she didn't expect her sleuthing skills to come in so handy in a little seaside town....

Addie left some painful memories behind in the big city, including the unsolved murder of her fiance and her father's fatal car accident. After an unexpected inheritance from a great aunt, she's moved to a small New England town founded by her ancestors back in colonial times - and living in spacious Greyborne Manor, on a hilltop overlooking the harbor. Best of all, her aunt also left her countless first editions and other treasures - providing an inventory to start her own store.

But there's trouble from day one, and not just from the grumpy woman who runs the bakery next door. A car nearly runs Addie down. Someone steals a copy of Alice in Wonderland. Then, Addie's friend Serena, who owns a nearby tea shop, is arrested - for killing another local merchant. The police seem pretty sure they've got the story in hand, but Addie's not going to let them close the book on this case without a fight....

I’m glad this book was included with my membership, I would have been upset if I paid for it. The writing was quite cheesy, the police were inadequate and the narrator sounded amateurish. And what police chief would bring a possible suspect or any civilian into a crime scene?

Enjoyed this one on my drives. The narrative moved along at a good pace, with a writing style that kept the subject light enough to move on to your work day.

This was a cute, if somewhat cheesy story, but it certainly passed the time of day. I don’t usually leave reviews, but my issue with this book was the narration. The narrator was very strident throughout the entire book, and it made it difficult to figure out where the important bits were, and what were lead ups. I might be interested in listening to the second book, but I’m not sure I could deal with the type of narration.

This book was dominated by cheesy half-wit amateur sleuths and a clueless cop. I should have stopped this book after the opening chapters. Terrible.

Basically a teen mystery

I am really glad that this book was included in my audible membership as I would be asking for a refund if I had paid for it.
Ok story with a typical romance. My main issue was with the main character Addie. She is not an enjoyable character. Addie is written as a very whiny, clueless and rude person. She makes some really stupid decisions. I found some of the situations really unbelievable. This person opens a bookstore & then never met any other shop owners until the day she opened the store. Meets one shop owner & instantly they are best friends??? The other shop owner wants to run her out of town! Don’t get me started on the stupidity of Addie of after numerous break ins into her house & shop & multiple people getting murdered, she lefts her front door unlocked after finally getting an security system. Very frustrating book & it was very hard to finish. Narrator was ok but I think her performance was hindered by the quality of the author’s story.
If you are ok with stupid heroines then this book is probably for you.
