Inspiring and Brave.
I‘ve heard how cruel and inhumane the Japanese were to prisoners but now there’s no doubt in my mind. One mans journey shows how he suffered and survived what a positive message for all of us today. This is an important listen for all.

Surprisingly Uplifting
Despite the grim subject of this book the author delivers an upbeat story of determination and survival. Overcoming horrendous psychological and physical mistreatment when many others were unable to do so. A great read.

Another harrowing account from the Pacific war
The Epilog added 20 years after initial writing is a powerful addition.
Lester's account is very similar to that of Lou Zamerini's Unbroken. I can't say one is better or more powerful than the other, both are harrowing.
Their accounts should not be forgotten or diminished.
Lester's book is well written, compelling and worth the read. Lester and all of his compatriots, thanks for your service.
