Growing up in a poor Yiddish speaking home in 1950s London, Lillian – then just a teenager – marries charming older man Raymond. One day he takes their children to the local park. But he never returns.
When they reappear 40 years later – the search for the truth begins.
Unfolding like a mystery, we follow Danny Ben-Moshe and his eccentric Jewish family as they unearth secrets, attempt to reconcile, and hear shocking news that sheds a new light on events.

Pretty captivating story
I liked this podcast. I was entertained but it also tugged at my heart strings. It really makes you wonder what you would do in the same position. I don’t think I would have handled it the same way the podcaster’s mother handled the situation but it was a different in a different time.
Podcast was well done, easy voices to listen to, good production quality and interesting story.

Interesting story but...
An interesting story but I had difficulty empathizing with Lillian. At times I felt that although what Raymond did was utterly reprehensible, she may have been secretly relieved to be able to get on with starting a new and better life. She referred to this better life several times. I wonder how much of her subsequent depression sprang from guilt over that relief rather than from having had her children taken from her.

A truly incredible story
This is an absolutely fascinating journey through the rediscovery of a family. I truly hope this documentary helped bring some peace to Lillian and her children.

Thank you for sharing this story with the world.
It was heartbreaking to listen to, yet at the same time, your candid relationship and conversations with your mom were so sweet and heartwarming, and the reunions and reconciliations in the last couple of episodes were raw, true and real. I really appreciated that you did not make things more than they were. Not all had to be forgiven. Not all apologies were said. And that’s ok. Time and opportunity will allow for things that need to be said, to be said.
Please thank your mother for sharing a part of her life with the world.
And you’re a really great story-teller.

What a story. Thank you for telling your story and allowing us, the listener ,to listen and absorb your pain and trauma. I believe this poor woman had her children stolen from her and has tried her best to live her life despite this horrific ordeal. I hope they carry on with their lives and love one another knowing that they all have suffered.

What a story!
I loved the way the mother kept trying to keep a stiff upper lip. And the ending was quite a surprise!

Loved it!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book; however, I would have classified it more like a podcast. I enjoyed the characters and the voice of the narrator. An unfortunate story but hopefully - in the long run - a happy ending!

Interesting and insightful
I really enjoyed my Sunday morning listening to Danny recount his mother's story. No spoiler alerts here - but I really found myself thinking about inter-generational trauma and also about how women through the ages have viewed themselves and their position in society. Danny's mother is a delight to listen to - she is honest in her recollections and at times can be quite passionate about the events that transpired. If you like a human interest story, with some surprises along the way, this story is for you!
