Description

Two decades ago, millions of listeners worldwide thrilled to the story told in the international best seller Not Without My Daughter - subsequently made into a film starring Sally Field - that told of an American mother and her six-year-old child's daring escape from an abusive and tyrannical Iranian husband and father. Now the daughter returns to tell the whole story - not only of that imprisonment and escape but of life after fleeing Tehran: living in fear of re-abduction, enduring recurring nightmares and panic attacks, attending school under a false name, and battling life-threatening illness - all under the menacing shadow of her father.

This is the story of an extraordinary young woman's triumph over life-crushing trauma to build a life of peace and forgiveness. Taking listeners from Michigan to Iran and from Ankara, Turkey, to Paris, France, My Name Is Mahtob depicts the profound resilience of a wounded soul healed by faith in God's goodness and in his care and love. And Mahmoody reveals the secret of how she liberated herself from a life of fear, learning to forgive the father who had shattered her life and discovering the joy and peace that comes from doing so.

Wonderful Conclusion To The Story

After watching the movie years ago, I've always been fascinated with this story.
I haven't read Not Without My Daughter. It has limited availability having only mass paperback available (no audiobooks or e-reader) so reading this paints a picture of the point of view of Mahtob and the years leading after the events.

She strongly writes about her Christian beliefs which became extreme at times but overall, this book was presented well.

She also discussed the documentary made by the Finnish film crew made years ago following Moody's point of view that I found on YouTube and even further displays the narcissism and delusion of her father and his constant attempts to reach out to her for whatever motive he had.

I'm glad she is finally free of him and they can move on in peace.

Wonderful story of resilience

Mahtob’s story of her flight from Iran to eventually returning to her home in Michigan is so well written. You are with her every moment of her journey to resuming a « normal » life In the U.S. her thoughts and feelings about her escape and especially about her dad are well expressed. She has such wonderful insight into her dad and especially herself. I enjoyed it from beginning to end.

One thing that I found annoying was that the reader changed her voice when she read passages of Mahlob as a little girl. Honestly I found her « little girl voice » a little creepy. But the rest of her reading was good.

Wonderful

I stumbled across this book by accident and having read her moms book years ago , it was delightful to learn how life went after their escape from Iran and becoming an adult with all the baggage of the past , very admirable they coped with a life of fear , but learned that forgiveness is healing the aching heart ….
