A great pleasure
I love this book-witty, full of humour, decency, and interesting information about the period and James Langston’s accents, skill at creating so many different voices and his cadence and phrasing really enhance a good story.

So disappointing!!!
I’ve read a few books by this author in the past and had enjoyed them. When I’m about to spend a credit I get nervous because I don’t want to waste a credit on a crappy book but knowing I’ve listened to a few others of hers I felt safe purchasing. There was so much potential for the book considering the storyline. I loved the storyline however that was about it, the thought of it was nice right but that was it. This did not feel like a romance, more a mystery or something else. There was no real bonding between the main characters. No falling in love. No time spent together. I also felt the author gave you a lot of repetitive information in the book. The narration was ok. Not horrible but not exceptional either. I’m so disappointed I will not be reading anymore from this author. Waste of time and money.

Loved this story and the telling of it.
This is a rags to riches story of a man named Quinn who is a man accused a d wrongly convicted of manslaughter. He meets Jane, a preacher's daughter, who is widowed and pregnant, while waiting to meet his sentence of hanging. Quinn, being the lovely man he is decides to help Jane out. But miracle of miracles, he is pardoned.
He and Jane now face a future together, and he still needs to find the nemesis who framed him for manslaughter. Now he has not only his family, but Jane, to protect.
Great story and characters. Filled with intrigue, humor and heat. This narrator was wonderful as well. I highly recommend the story and the audio book, and am looking forward to the next in this series.

A New Duke
Once upon a time there was a banker waiting to be hanged and a young pregnant widow who accompanies her crazy Vicar Papa when he comes to the prison to perform his mission. The banker and the young woman talk and come to like each other. They marry so that the young woman can take care of herself and the baby, his final act of kindness. Wait… Quinn doesn’t die (it could not have been any closer); he is apparently heir to a duchy and is now the Duke of Walden. Jane is not a twice-widowed mother; she is now a duchess.
Quinn and Jane must learn to handle the responsibilities of their new station while coming to know each other. Jane must also learn to cope with Quinn’s unusual family, which now includes also, not just Jane, but the “staff” Quinn brought out of prison with him. There’s a lot to do, so much to learn, including who was behind Quinn’s murder charge and near fatal prison stay.
This is an entertaining and busy story written in Grace Burrowes typical engaging and witty style. The characters, from the hero and heroine to loveable Ned, exhibit strength, intelligence, caring and confidence (although a little uncertainty appears at times). Well-written descriptions of the characters, the settings, and the circumstances draw the reader into the story. The story is well paced and has some drama, danger, and mystery mixed with the fun and romance. James Langton’s narration is outstanding. His voices bring the characters to life. My One and Only Duke is a great beginning for what promises to be another wonderful series by Grace Burrowes. You don’t want to miss it!

Read, don’t listen
I recommend reading rather than listening. The way James Langton interprets female voices is very off putting. He makes them sound like they’re whining, complaining, dying from consumption, or nagging no matter what they’re actually saying. There are male narrators who do women’s voices very well: Michael Deehy, Alex Wyndham, etc. but James Langton really ruined this book for me. I’m sorry, I’m sure he’s a very nice man and he is excellent with accents and male voices, but I suspect unconscious misogyny!

A Lovely Heartwarming HEA
I loved this book, although I was a bit confused in the beginning because of the sisters' names. I wondered if this book occurred before the Windham cousins books. If you've read the cousin's series, you'll understand. I loved both Quinn's and Jane's transformations through the story. Quinn who realized his worth and Jane whose confidence grew to match her drive and intellect. My favorite moment was when Jane finally threw her father out of her house. I also loved Ned what's his last name and the "twin" butlers. Overall, an engrossing tale told with humor and intelligence.

Great beginning, lost momentum
The first hour or so was great. A little irreverent and whimsical, with intriguing characters and good and unusual setup. But then it felt like the story was just in a holding pattern to stretch the book out to full length, and during that time the characters somehow got flatter so that by the end I was left basically completely uninvested. I think there needed to be more mystery? I don't know, something was off about the pacing and I always wanted things to go just a little deeper.
This was my first book by this author. I might try another if the summary were intriguing, since there was promise in this book, but I was disappointed by this one so I'd be somewhat hesitant.

Great Start to a Series
I seldom read a series a second time, but this one is an exception. I enjoyed the characters, even the secondary ones are well written. The story starts in, of all places, Newgate Prison. It’s an unlikely place to begin a romance series but for this story it is perfect.
Not saying a lot about the narrator as his female voices are what you would expect from a male with a fairly deep voice. His “pompous aristocrats” and “pious preachers” more than make up for that minor short coming.

a bit iffy at first
Wasn't sure if I was going to like this book at first but it came through in the end. You pretty much knew Quinn was going to escape the gallows somehow, it was just a matter of how and what happened next. Jane was a total surprise to me in the way her character was portrayed. I thought she wasn't going to be so likable or amenable but she proves me wrong. I didn't much like Quinn's siblings but his cousin Duncan proved intriguing. I liked the path the storyline took and it turned out to be entertaining in the end. I would classify this book as a pleasant reading, not a fantastic or really good read but a pleasant and comforting read. It just made it by a hair onto my To Be Read Again List.

Kept me up until the wee hours
I had NO clue how the author was going to get the hero out of this one. Talk about leaving the reader hanging to get to the next chapter! And that was just the start. I did NOT see the villain coming and would never have predicted the very logical but unexpected ending. Loved the descriptions of a pregnant woman trying to sit down - laughed sooo hard while cringing in sympathy. The characters are so intensely drawn that you can see them, hear them, swear you're at the table with them. In short, every time I think this author could not possibly get any better, she gives me such intensely human, flawed, and likable characters that I can't stand to put the thing on pause. I LOVE it when I can't figure out how the thing will end and I'm struggling to stay awake at oh dark hundred because I was stupid enough to start the thing on a weeknight.

Enjoyable period piece with irreverent characters
I enjoyed this romance even when I wanted to cosh the Duke over the head. For any men reading this, if you know you should be honest with your wife, then just be honest with your wife. Far more respectful and sane. That said, loved how this started with him in jail, enjoyed the romance with the reverend's daughter, and particularly adored the family of nutjobs the Duke is related to. This will be a bumpy series as we focus on each one of them. I think Ned steals the show, but that's just me.
